Hey btw, David was on NECN tonight, with David Bernstein of the Phoenix and Jennifer Donahue of St. Anselm’s in NH. Fun stuff.
Do we finally get to Jimenez in the 4th?
Stretch time: Boyz II Men … needed a better tuning fork. Show ’em how it’s done, Kate:
Man, they loved her in Philly in 1974.

They just ruined Shilling’s moment. They cut to an effing commercial with a guy jumping over a cement truck. Horrendus. That is why I’m watching in chunks with the DVR so I can fast forward through Buck and McCarver.

And Obama just doesn’t have proper respect Schilling’s moment. He probably would have cut away during God Bless America too, but he likes Boyz II Men’s wholesome gospel stuff.

Yeah, this telecast had Obama’s fingerprints all over it.

YOuklis down 1-2

Youk had zero errors at first this year.

I just got back from a basketball league I’m in at about 9:45 and flipped on the telly to catch the Sox. For some inexplicable reason, though, I switched it to ESPN (must have been a commercial break) to catch the BC-V Tec game’s last 4 minutes. I would never believe I could possibly write this, but I had to stop watching the baseball game to watch college football (something I usually detest, for reasons I’ll skip for another time). In any event, BC’s QB Ryan – a Heisman candidate so far this season – was having a pretty lousy game, but decided to do his best impression of Tom Brady and marched down the field twice in 4 minutes to score 14 points and win the game 14-10. It was pretty damn amazing and gutsy, even more impressive than Okie’s night.

I’ll always say this about athletes: don’t judge them on how they perform on their good nights, when everything is going well. Judge them when they just aren’t up to snuff – and whether or not they can do just enough to get the win, or pull it all together in the last few minutes to squeak it out. Why? Everyone’s always going to have a few bad games. The trick is to make sure those bad games don’t kill the season. It’s a lesson people like Brady, Schilling, the Sox – and now even BC’s Ryan – has learned well. As an aside: Has there ever been a better time to be a Boston fan? Even the Bruins and Celtics look good!
they says
Wow, someone actually figured that out, at least from 75-2004:

Boston teams winning percentage:
ryepower12 says
They’ll have to update that, but if all goes accordingly, 2007 should blow 1975 (and 1986) out of the water.

Of course, this is just hypotheticals, but I can certainly at least envision seeing the following:
<
p>
-Red Sox WS Victory
-Patriots Super Bowl Victory
-Celtics winning the Atlantic division and at least getting to the Eastern Conference Finals.
-Bruins making the playoffs (they look decent, so far)
-BC football playing for the national championship.
<
p>
That would certainly be unprecedented. If only the Celtics had a decent coach, we’d have a shot at the trifecta this year…

I know it’s only 1-AA. And outside I-495. But UMass football (6-1) is having a good year, too and should make a good run at the Championship again. Their only loss came at the hands of BC. UMass was actually able to hang in for most of the game, and only lost by 10 points (24-14).
<
p>(I should’ve predicated my support for Deval on his promise to only appoint UMass trustees who would support UMass footbal going Div. 1-A….)
ryepower12 says
at 1-A and would probably compete fine for the Big East crown on a year to year basis. But, yes, I did forget UMASS Amherst… it’s a great program.

That is fabulous!

surprise. Got to start paying attention. Glad they got by West VA Tech. There have been some tough games in West Virginia over the years.

by surprise. I’d love to see them win the national championship this year. I’m sick of seeing only schools from the south – or california – be able to win nat’l championships. It’s well past time for a east coast champion.

The Flyers bust out her “God Bless America” before big games every once in a while, and have a better winning percentage in those games compared to the rest of the season. She’s as iconic in some eyes as the Rocky statue or booing Santa Claus.

teams of all time. Have they ever done a top ten list of the most despicable teams of all time. The Oakland Raiders come to mind. I run into people who were in love with the Bobby Clark Flyers —It makes me grind my teeth.
shane says
When they are on the other team, they are despicable or dirty. When they are on your team, they are “hard-nosed” or “spirited.” Rodney Harrison is one of the NFL’s most detested players, even before his suspension, but everyone seems to love him up here. The Broad Street Bullies struck a chord with the gritty, blue collar Philly crowd. I was a little young to appreciate them at the time, being more of the Hextall era Flyers fan.
cadmium says
I would have loved them. There were a lot of people who considered our great 1980’s Celtics totally obnoxious.

Call them the NHL equivalent of the Bush/Cheney administration. That’s how history will judge the current crop of jokers, I suspect.
