A bunch of us over here at the ACLU got a chance Wednesday night to see an advance screening of Rendition, which officially opens tonight.
I’d recommend it to anybody. It has its Hollywood moments and oversimplifications, but overall it does a really good job of showing how much of the moral high ground the U.S. has lost, and how and why our methods are probably creating more terrorists than we’re capturing or killing.
Like Bruce Springsteen said on 60 Minutes a few weeks ago:
“We’ve seen things happen over the past six years that I don’t think anybody ever thought they’d ever see in the United States. When people think of the American identity, they don’t think of torture. They don’t think of illegal wiretapping. They don’t think of voter suppression. They don’t think of no habeas corpus. No right to a lawyer… you know. Those are things that are anti-American.”
