I start to read this article in the NYT online today entitled, “Exoneration Using DNA Brings Change in Legal System.” The second paragraph states,
All but eight states now give inmates varying degrees of access to DNA evidence that might not have been available at the time of their convictions. Many states are also overhauling the way witnesses identify suspects, crime labs handle evidence and informants are used.
and I think, “Gee, I wonder what the eight states are.” In my little Yankee brain, I immediately think, “They have to be states like Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia….”
The answer is near the end of the article. I was right about two of the states.
