Aravosis makes a good point.
“Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?”
Barack Obama has called on the Dept of Justice to fire an employee who Obama thinks endorses bigotry against minorities. We’re hoping to hear from the Obama campaign that the Senator has the same zero-tolerance for bigotry against minorities when the bigot works on his own campaign. Obama’s Web site is still promoting McClurkin all over it.
In case you missed it, “McClurkin” is Donnie McClurkin, a Grammy-winning gospel singer, a Republican sympathizer, and an “ex-gay” homophobe who has spoken out loudly against the “curse” of homosexuality. Obama’s much-touted gospel tour through South Carolina is prominently featuring McClurkin.
UPDATE: Obama has released the following statement:
“I have clearly stated my belief that gays and lesbians are our brothers and sisters and should be provided the respect, dignity, and rights of all other citizens. I have consistently spoken directly to African-American religious leaders about the need to overcome the homophobia that persists in some parts our community so that we can confront issues like HIV/AIDS and broaden the reach of equal rights in this country.
I strongly believe that African Americans and the LGBT community must stand together in the fight for equal rights. And so I strongly disagree with Reverend McClurkin’s views and will continue to fight for these rights as President of the United States to ensure that America is a country that spreads tolerance instead of division.”
However, as far as I’m aware, McClurkin remains on the schedule for the concert in Columbia, SC this Sunday. Laurel points to more from Pam’s House Blend.
if obama has made an error of ignorance (aka didn’t know mcclurkin was a rabid homophobe), then he had better own up to it and change his schedule quickly. like now.
“You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.”
…by “pwned” did you mean “pawned” or “owned”?
…of which I’m not sure of the origin, “pwned”. It’s a misspelling of a slang variation of “owned”, meaning shamed, trumped, defeated. If someone has an unimpeachable comeback to a comment, the other person is “pwned”.

It’s just a smart-ass, over used thing to say.
pwns j00.

the P key is next to the O key and owned was often in the heat of on-line battle spelled pwned.
…both Dems and Reps.

All of the national politicians are wearing their religion on their sleeves, or pandering to various “establishments of religion.” It has not always been so. I don’t recall when it started.
<
p>
Maybe Carter, but he did not seem to be trying to pander.
<
p>
Maybe Clinton, who, on Sunday mornings, was never photographed without a bible when exiting some church, somewhare.
<

What I noticed was that, in the 2000 election cycle, the Jew Liebermann made sure that he was photographed pandering to conservative christians, particularly in Michigan.

Now, the half-Negro Obama is campaigning in South Carolina with a virulent homophobe. South Carolina–in which he might have been lynched only a century ago.
<

I’m sorry, but I’ll ignore all of them. The Dems (and Reps) at the national level are not worthy of consideration.
Although he says he’s strongly in favor of rights for gays blah blah blah, he intends to stand next to a virulent homophobe this weekend. I hope the ‘phobes butter his bread, because he’s earned nothing but vinegar from me. Excellent write-up here by Pam.
Remember, much of what is going on in Obama central was learned from what could and couldn’t be done in Deval Patrick’s campaign.
<

Deval began his inauguration day in a service with some of the most virulently anti-equality clerics in the state, and few people even noticed. You don’t think the Devalobama folks noticed?
there’s a big big difference, in that Deval had already gone to the mat not just for whatever Obama’s version of equal treatment is, but for full marriage equality, even to the point of IMHO going too far by saying the lege shouldn’t even vote on the amendment. There wasn’t any doubt about where Deval stood. But since Obama hasn’t got Deval’s cred on this issue to begin with, the McClurkin thing is that much worse for him.
ca$h (and as a result I’ve been getting endless streams of mail & phone calls), but his handling of this issue will prevent me from supporting him in a primary. There is no excuse.

I’d hold my nose and vote for him against any GOP candidate if the general election were tomorrow, but his stock is plummeting in my eyes.
a commenter over at Pam’s suggested that Obama could still do some good by making a strong and clear statement while on stage this weekend. it would have to be quite a powerful speech to even begin mitigating his disastrous decision of partying with McClurkin. it may not be enough to regain ground has already lost with LGBT-As, but it could move forward an overdue conversation in the african-american community. anyone want to lay odds on whether he has the moral fortitude to do this? or is he just one big pile of pander now?
…Obama is partying with more than just one homophobe in South Carolina. I’m sorry, but these antics of his are unforgiveable, regardless of whatever “statement” his campaign puts out.
