“Massachusetts values.” Ah yes indeed. From the Log Cabin Republicans, who remembered who said he would “lay keep [his] head low” if the gay marriage debate came to a head:
Who is this guy? Do you remember him? Wasn't he MassPort chief or something?
(From TPM.)
Please share widely!
wasn’t he ambassador to south carolina?
WHEN exactly was this pledge to ‘lay low on gay marriage’? Warning – I have a photo of the actual letter from Romney to the LCR on my blog, and it says no such thing – talks about housing and employment only.
I trust you'll agree that the difference between “lay low” and “keep my head low” is insubstantial.

I’m not sure why you’re pressing this argument, PP — you dig yourself and your boy Mitt in deeper with every post.
And still don’t understand her position. What she describes as “wishful hearing,” I see as willful misrepresentation.

I know a couple of people who were in the room. They confirm what the article says: not only did Romney actively seek LCR’s endorsement, the LCR folks were suspicious and only gave it after extensive discussions with him. Gay marriage was one of the big sticking points.

Romney, of course, went on to use the LCR as a shield against any questioning of his stance on gay rights. The LCR ended up undergoing almost a complete leadership change once it became clear that they’d been had.

To update the story a little, my remaining gay Republican friends (all 3 of them) jumped ship when Robert Willington became the Massachusetts GOP Executive Director. Very few of us have forgotten that he led the Vote On Marriage petition drive and was New England chairman of the Alan Keyes for President campaign. As one friend said, “fool me once.”

The one all the unenrolleds voted for in my town…
He was an independent when Republicans were popular, and he’s a Republican now that they’re not.

In other news, Romney is really getting into disco these days.
woah, take me to funkytown! this means that he’ll be trading in the brylcreem for mousse. and just think – the whole world of gel still awaits him. a true retro-progressive. he has so much to look forward to back there. /sighs nostalgically/
I hope they actually put some money behind this, it’d serve him right (so to speak).
