As complex as this issue is, there is certainly no shortage of over-simplified, legislation-for-its-own-sake proposals out there. There are few who can deny, however, that this issue seems to have taken on a life of its own. When the republican party's highest-ranking Latino official abruptly resigns in frustration over the tone of his own party's rhetoric, it begins to look as if the Republicans have created yet another monster that they cannot control.
I wonder when, if at all, the republican leadership will recognise the self inflicted damage they are taking as a result of their attempted political opportunism?
