It looks like Joan Vennochi agrees with the notion that Niki Tsongas has reduced herself to boogey man tactics. In today’s Boston Globe Venocchi echoes my points from yesterday.
FORGET about Karl Rove.
Democrat Niki Tsongas isn’t running against the former White House aide. But you wouldn’t know that from her campaign for Congress.
First, she labeled the Oct. 16 special election a referendum on President Bush. And now, her campaign is accusing Jim Ogonowski, her Republican opponent, of concealing support from Republicans in Washington, including Rove. There’s further cause for alarm because Ogonowski’s campaign manager interned in the Bush White House. Meanwhile, US Senator John Kerry is also on the alert, issuing a fund-raising letter on Tsongas’s behalf that takes on “the GOP fear campaign” and “Karl Rove-style politics of distortion and distraction.”
All this Pavlovian railing against Rove and the GOP comes because Ogonowski pointed out the obvious: Top Democrats like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and former president Bill Clinton are backing Tsongas in her bid to succeed Martin T. Meehan as representative of the Fifth Congressional District. That isn’t a “fear campaign.” It’s the truth.
Oogity Boogity Niki, Oogity Boogity.
Oogityboogity illegal immigrants oogityboogity is a sound strategy because people don’t end up separating the repub disinformaation regarding SCHIP and immigrants.
it is well, upholding the law.
Republicans: enforcing laws that are politically convenient to enforce since 2001!

If SCHIP is passed, illegals will harm your children. That’s what you said in the other thread. That’s a boogey man. Oogity boogity.
Speaking of laws, I wonder where Ogo stands on the Libby pardon?

The flimsiness of Republican support for law was brought into stark relief in this case.

…if he actually linked to positions.
I’m not sure that focusing on the genial but evil (whisper campaigns, anyone?) Karl Rove will have much traction beyond the political junky sector. However, Rove does symbolize the consistent Republican subordination of partisanship to good policy. That’s epitomized by his assuming a policy position in the White House.
…and did we tell you Bush isn’t running for reelection? You should share that with your candidates, who can’t talk about anyone else.
And it may be cheap political theatre to run against him, but then, what isn’t in a campaign these days.

Maybe if he wasn’t the worst President in modern history, it wouldn’t be so easy.
Bush has not shown a sudden interest in policy.

Bush has not repudiated Rove’s tactics.

Polling tends to show support for Republicans tracking to support for Bush. The electorate now knows what Republicans stand for.
