Secretary of the Commonwealth William Galvin has announced the special election for the 32nd Middlesex District (to replace Mike Festa) and released the calendar of important dates including filing deadlines and the primary and election dates.
The primary is set for February 5, 2008, which may coincide with the state’s presidential primary. The general election will then be on March 4, 2008, which may also be the presidential primary, depending on whether or not the presidential primary is moved up.
I will be taking nomination papers on Monday, November 26, 2007 and setting up my committee at about the same time. Once my committee is arranged, we will be able to accept donations to put forth a full-throated campaign for the progressive principles that hold sway in the 32nd Middlesex.
Thank you for your support.

I’ve been told by a number of people in the 32nd that Katherine Clark is running.
<
p>I believe she is currently on the School Committee. She ran against an incumbent Republican Senator in 2002 and was the likely Democratic nominee in 2004 for the 32nd if Mike Festa had stayed in the race for DA.
<
p>She was also the co-chair of the MDP’s coordinated campaign on 2006 I have gotten to know her over the years and she is an impressive candidate.

Will be a fantastic addition to the legislature. We should all be so lucky to be represented by someone of her integrity and principles. She has served the community and party well over the years and is a true progressive.

She is the natural successor to Mike Festa. She is solidly progressive, and she had paid her dues in the Democratic party, having taken on Republican Senator Tisei in the last election, and then having worked for the Democratic Unity during the past gubenatorial election.
<
p>I think Katherine will make a fantastic State Representative…a worthy replacement for Mike Festa.

You might want to consider doing all of your blog works in something like Notepad. (I suspect that Macs have something similar.) And don’t delete them until you can verify that the works have been properly posted.

and then it wasn’t. Can’t explain it.

The promotion comment, with his question about who else is running, was there! Without his question, I would never have hijacked another candidate’s thread with information about another candidate. Charley asked, so I responded. Good luck to all in the race. Kate

…I’ve had enough problems (not here) with comments not posting properly that I’ve taken to doing virtually everything of any length in Notepad and saving to disk before hitting “Post”.

Ron Seaboyer, alderman at large in Melrose and Democrat has also thrown his hat in the ring. As well as Mark Hutchinson, a local realtor in Melrose who is running as a Republican.

p>there may be a competitive primary and I don’t think the general election is a gimmee.
