Notice the particularly chagrinned face of Bush in his press conference as he discussed the new intelligence analysis revealing that Iran stopped its nuclear weapons program in 2003? Wonder why Ahmadinejad proclaimed this latest intelligence analysis a “victory”. Wonder why Bush did not question the analysts last August when they told him they had new important information on Iran’s nuclear program…especially since he was rattling his war sabre over that issue?
Well how about this:
The original 2005 intelligence analysis was essentially false. It was a product of the still powerful but deceitful Rumsfeld and promoted , if not partially created, through the influence of Cheney and others. With Rumsfeld rejected by the people, and thrown out by Bush in 2006, the second or lower level intelligence folks decided to no longer be pawns in the game. Integrity, conscience, some bravery, maybe common decency have motivated them to finally come forward with the truth that Iran has stopped nuclear weapons develpoment and thus they have pulled the rug from under Bush and Cheney’s deceiptful rationale for another war. The 2005 intelligence analysis wasn’t inaccurate – it was a lie.
What might be a bigger story is how our intelligence analysts got additional concrete evidence to so decisively reverse the prior 2005 analysis. Well, how about with a little help from their second or lower level friends in the Iranian intelligence and maybe military community – who may have put their lives on the line to reveal facts and evidence clearly showing that Iran is not developing nuclear weapons and that Ahmadinejad is also a liar and a fraud? Their bravery and decency may be the greatest yet untold story of how and why we just backed off from WW III.
Second level Germans tried to do the same to Hitler just before WW II but lost their courage and pulled off in the face of the overwhelming brute power of Hitler and his fellow liars. History tells us they probably could have pulled the plug on Hitler – but did not and world-wide catastophe followed. Maybe some second level American and Iranian heros have been reading history.
By the way, Bush did not ask last August about the content of the new Iran weapons intelligence because he already knew the answer. Even he is not that uncurious. And Ahmadinejad has called this new analysis a “victory” because he needs to save face while realizing that people in his own government are now acting against him. Dictators must always create the illusion of being in control.
