Both candidates’ statements indicate that they attempted but were unable to get the required signatures. Perhaps I quibble here but that isn’t “dropping out of a race”, that is failing to qualify for a run.
<
p>People tend to under-estimate what it takes to collect 150 registered voters’ signatures. Signature collection is a legit first test of a campaign and a candidate.
<
p>To be fair to the candidates who qualified and met that first test, seems we should be upfront about potential candidates failing to qualify rather then being polite about dropping out.
<
p>(and yes they could run on stickers so you can claim they dropped out. But how real is a campaign that can’t interest 150 registered voters to just sign their names?)
