I think levying such tolls would be a less rational and fair way to gather revenue than relying on an income tax, especially if it were possible in Massachusetts a modestly graduated tax. Gas tax hikes would also make more sense from an environmental perspective, but one can imagine the hue and cry likely to meet any politician who proposed that.
Do we in Massachusetts then face this in our future? Tolls all the time because we cannot and will not find or support any better way to pay to repair crumbling bridges and pay for education and health care?
