And the reason?
Liz Morningstar, executive director of the Deval Patrick Committee, in a statement released by the campaign, did not respond to questions about the apparent circumvention of the state’s $500 limit on individual campaign contributions. She said the fund-raising system is one of several tools at Patrick’s disposal “to strengthen and grow the Democratic Party in Massachusetts. This program is just one of the ways we’re establishing a strong Democratic infrastructure in every precinct across Massachusetts,” she said in the statement.
So even though it occupies 100% of statewide offices, 100% of Massachusetts congressional and senate seats, and 83% of the state legislature, and most local offices, the party still needs to establish a strong Democratic infrastructure? Was Liz Morningstar joking when she said this? And finally:
The way was cleared for the system four years ago [but] former governor Mitt Romney never set up the sort of operation that Patrick and his aides have created.
I’m so disappointed. I expected that Deval Patrick would be different!
So far this news has provoked no reaction at Blue Mass Group. As Bob Dole said, “Where’s the outrage?”
<
p>And yes, it has.
<
p>Why not try reading some of the other recent posts before launching your own attacks?
I (politely) apologize.
<
p>Before posting I looked on the BMG front page and didn’t see anything. I’m not an expert at finding things inside BMG.
Even if HF skimmed the titles of recent posts, how would he (or anyone) know that a post titled “Together we got conned” was about the financing issue.
If someone is going to throw out a blanket statement accusing BMG of ignoring an issue, he or she should read some of the recent posts, and see if it was addressed. Simple.
…but about knocking that halo off Obama after experiencing the new language of politics as ususal double speak we got from Deval.
…Of outraged posters who do agree that this contribution stuff all feels like the old shell game being played by the new kid on the block just becasue the old gang got away with it. Shame on Common Cause for turning a blind eye.
Nowhere in this post was any suggestion of impropriety made. When a Governor or President is of a certain party, the primary political activity of the state or national party will be to support that executive. I remember back following President Clinton’s re-election the Democratic National Committee was called out for spending money to support his re-election. My reaction was DUH! – what did you expect the party to do.
<
p>And yes, we do need to build the party infrastructure in this state. It is not evenly spread throughout the state by any means as we somehow manage to not contest some Republican-held legislative seats. Secretary of State Bill Galvin informed the Democratic State Committee at its last meeting that 190 wards/towns had not filed their paperwork for election on the Feb. 5th ballot. I for one will not be satisfied until there is a Democrat contesting every state and county partisan race and every town and ward has an active and full committee.
