Just saw this article in my handy-dandy daily email from the Boston Business Journal. (If you don’t get this emailed to you every day, you’re mising out. It’s a very good way to keep up on things.)
Interesting to see what my buddy Andrea has been up to. Glad to see she’s still working to make the world a better place.
The Eos Foundation has pledged $15 million to be paid over five years to combat poverty in the Boston area, the Harwich Port-based foundation announced Wednesday.
The money will be used to jumpstart an independent nonprofit, Boston Rising, and will be modeled after Robin Hood — an innovative New York City-based group that draws significant support from hedge fund, financial, and industry leading professionals. Robin Hood reported distributed more than $130 million last year alone, according to Eos’ release.
The Eos Foundation plans to leverage its gift; it is in the process of raising matching funds to increase the impact, according to the release.
No, it’s not her money, people. You may recall that Andrea was appointed president of the Eos Foundation in 2006.

A pity she isn’t our LG.
<
p>Say, by the way, has anyone heard a word from, or about, our LG since the election? Who is he supporting for President? What has he been up to since the election?

He came to Natick last September to talk about transportation issues facing MetroWest, and in December I saw him at Kate‘s holiday party. I did not think to ask him about Presidential endorsements at the time.
<
p>As for what he’s actually been doing, I couldn’t say. He gave a good talk and was quite knowledgeable, but I haven’t personally seen anything happening. (I don’t mean to imply that nothing’s happening; I just don’t know what is happening.)

Bob, with the crush of the holiday season, you must have missed the Globe article about the Lt. Governor and what he’s been doing over this past year.

p>It’s the hardest job in the state considering that you get little credit for what you do, your schedule is as packed or more packed than your bosses, you can’t speak out publicly everytime you disagree with the boss, and you are often called upon to repair problems that your boss may have gotten into…you must share the blame for all that goes wrong and divert the credit for all that goes right…terrible job description, if you ask me.
<
p>But, somehow Murray seems to be pulling it off just fine. Municipal leaders in my area still look to Murray as the only Adm. guy who “gets it”…and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the initiatives that are moving forward are the ones assigned to him…veterans, domestic violence, commuter rail, and the others mentioned in the Globe article…
<
p>Many here at BMG point to the ConCon vote to keep the marriage equality question off the ballot as the only concrete accomplishment of this Administration’s first year in office..if that is true, then take a hard look at where those swing votes, critical votes came from to make that happen…it doesn’t take a genius with a map to figure out who the guy was who made it happen.

He’s just about the only person in the executive branch who has a clue. And he seems to have held together this administration well. Put him and his peeps in a more prominent role and we’ll start getting the ship turned around.

He’s chairing the new Council on Domestic Violence and was very involved in the activation of the Interagency Council on the Homeless. Great guy.

I did miss the Globe article. It was an honest question.

p>Does anyone know if he has made a Presidential endorsement?

….and it is more than just the obvious good intentions of the initiative but Andrea’s sterling personality, intelligent engaged mind combined with her impressive track record of actually achieving what she sets out to do that makes this one person I still am proud to have spent all that time standing on street corners holding signs for or stumping for votes.
<
p>We all left the room knowing this will be something to watch grow under Andrea’s formidable leadership.

Those of us that worked for and got to know Andrea are not the least bit surprised. She is truly one of those individuals that walks the walk. Here’s hoping she stays active in keeping our party on the right course.
