February 25, 2008 By cartergilson

sorry for two in a row, but this is pretty big

From Left AFL-CIO President Robert Haynes, Congressman John Tierney, Rep. Mary Grant, Katherine Clark, Attorney General Martha Coakley, Congressman Edward Markey, Mayor Rob Dolan Show their support at a Pre-Election Rally for Katherine Clark Democratic Nominee for State Representative

U.S. Congressmen Edward Markey, D-Malden, and John Tierney, D-Salem, today joined Katherine Clark, Democratic Nominee for the 32nd Middlesex State Representative Seat, in a campaign rally at Memorial Hall in Melrose to announce their support for her election to the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Markey and Tierney each represent a portion of the 32nd Middlesex district.  The seat, which will be filled in a special election on March 4th, has been open since Michael Festa was appointed by Governor Deval Patrick to the serve as the Secretary of Elder Affairs.  After leaving office, Festa also threw his support behind Clark’s bid to fill his seat.

“I am truly honored and excited to have the support of Congressmen Markey and Tierney. Their leadership in Congress has been a model of service and commitment to the people of Melrose and Wakefield,” said Clark. “I look forward to working together to tackle the tough issues facing us all,” she added.

Markey, Tierney and Clark were joined by Attorney General Martha Coakley, AFL-CIO President Robert Haynes, Mayor Rob Dolan and a standing-room-only crowd of supporters at Memorial Hall on Sunday.

In endorsing Clark, Congressman John Tierney said, “From her work on behalf of the youngest in our society to the oldest in our society, Katherine Clark has the experience to be a great State Representative.  Katherine will go to work every day not to have the title but to do the job.”

Congressman Markey added, “On education to jobs to economic opportunity, Katherine will fight for our concerns.  Katherine Clark is the definition of public servant.  We are very fortunate that she is willing to serve Melrose and Wakefield and the Commonwealth as a whole.”

Katherine Clark lives in Melrose with her husband Rodney and their three sons. Katherine was elected to the Melrose School Committee in November 2001 and served as Chairman for three terms. An attorney with 18 years in public service, Clark most recently served as Chief of Policy and Government for Attorney General Martha Coakley.

On Tuesday, February 5th she was elected as the Democratic Nominee to fill the vacant 32nd Middlesex Representative seat.
