Christopher Jenkins- Dracut
My name is Christopher Jenkins and I am a candidate for one of the four male youth seats which you will be filling on March 8th. I have several times been a delegate to the state convention, both youth and elected. I was recently elected Secretary of the Dracut Democratic Town Committee. I also serve as the Secretary of Massachusetts Democratic Future (Young Democrats of Massachusetts) and of Greater Lowell Area Democrats. I was previously a chapter officer and Vice-Chair of the DC Federation of College Democrats. My campaign experience includes both paid and volunteer work for all levels of elective office and I hold a masters degree in political management from The George Washington University. Some of you are familiar with my newsletter of Democratic events in the Merrimack Valley. I look forward to this opportunity to work with all of you and I respectfully ask for your vote.
According to the candidate book there are 15 candidates for 4 slots in this category. We are fortunate to have so many candidates with such diverse experience. I’m happy to respond to comments on this thread.

I’ll be at the election at least an hour early, so hopefully we’ll get to meet in person. We’re both running for insanely competitive at-large seats, so I wish you (and myself) luck.

this high school educator is about to have a stroke.

p>Civic engagement among young people is where it’s at.
<
p>I am pleased to see there are others interested in the position. Would that both of you could find your way onto the committee in a perfect world?
<
p>A plethora of sincere young people. Does it get any better than that?
<
p>In my view, no.

I knew Chris from my days in the Young Dems. He’s a good guy and works hard for the party and its candidates, but doesn’t believe in hyperbole and knows how to work with people. He’d be a good addition to the state committee.
<
p>A question though for you, Ryan, and really anyone else looking at the 2008 elections, particularly with the retirements we’re seeing…The Democrats are so dominant in the state Lege, it feels like we’re pushing the envelope of possibility. How do we keep defending our marginal seats while finding likely pickoffs mong the remaining Republicans? Are we better off turning toward “upgrading” incumbents with more populist/progressive/liberal ones at this point?

Why can’t Chris answer that one? Or anyone?
<
p>The question is difficult to answer for this reason: what I do with my own time would be slightly different from what I’d do as a member of the DSC, on that time. As a member of the DSC, I would take it as my duty to empower and expand the base of our party’s activists – which is sort of removed from your question. What activists choose to do with the tools I hope to be able to give them is their own decision. On my own time I get involved in races that interest me, but I would make sure that wouldn’t interfere with my duties on the DSC. I hope that answers your question.
