We all get really worked up about politics. Otherwise we wouldn’t be here writing on and reading this blog. Every once in a while something happens somewhat tangentially to politics to make you realize what really matters. Today a Dallas Police officer lost his life while escorting Senator Clinton’s Motorcade.
A Dallas police motorcycle officer crashed and was killed Friday while escorting the Hillary Clinton motorcade to a campaign rally.
Senior Corporal Victor Lozada, a 20-year veteran of the department, was killed after apparently crashing into a curb.
Sources say the 49-year-old Corporal, who was relatively new to the motorcycle division, was transported to Methodist Central Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
This man gave his life while protecting a candidate for the Presidency. While yes this is an accident, he died in service to our democracy and should be remembered as such. My thoughts go out to the Lozada family.
This was cross-posted at RMG something I normally don’t do but thought this story warranted it.

I am repeatedly struck by the selfless service of public safety officers. When firefighters see a burning building, they go inside to rescue those trapped within. When a dangerous crime is in process, police officers respond. Its good to remember those who give so much for our safety.

the campaign workers in NH that were held hostage for hours. They were giving their time and talents, volunteering for someone they believe in, keeping the wheels of democracy turning. Fortunately they were released unharmed.

p>The news of the death of the police officer is very sad indeed.

Are you pointing that out for any particular reason?

My sympathies to the Lozada family; a family that includes his wife and four children: two adult children, one in high school, and the youngest, only ten. May the memory of his life be a comfort to them. Deepest condolences.

I also spit profane thoughts at “the candidates”. May they reincarnate forever as rocks in a hard labor prison camp located in China.

This is tragic, and the Lozada family should receive all of our condolences. Public service deserves respect.
