My activism in the party has afforded me the opportunity to play a role at all levels of elective politics. I ran for an at-large seat on the Boston city council (in 2005, I lost by 2.5% points after earning nearly 30,000 votes as well as significant support from organized labor, local media, and Democratic ward committees). Before that, I served as campaign manager for Suffolk county Sheriff Andrea Cabral’s 2004 race helping to orchestrate a landslide victory. In late 2005, I began volunteering with both Governor Patrick and Lieutenant Governor Murray’s respective campaigns. Most recently, I served as one of the GOTV coordinators for Hillary Clinton’s New Hampshire effort. Formerly a member of the (Boston) Ward 20 Democrats, I now serve on the Ward 10 committee.
I am particularly interested in working on behalf of the DSC to encourage outreach and recruitment of young professionals who may not identify with any political party. The core Democratic values as well as the issues that define us (healthcare, education, protecting the environment, public safety) are ones that appeal to the under-35 set. By working to build our party and grow our numbers, we will build a majority that shall span generations.
Additionally, I hope to work within the DSC to help facilitate volunteer opportunities in swing states this fall. As many younger people have less obligations, there is a key opportunity to increase our numbers of active volunteers by organizing trips to some swing states. Regardless of who the nominee will be, it is certain that the political map is changing. Once solidly red states like Virginia or Texas can be won by our party this November. A campaign invasion organized by the DSC will no doubt make that a reality.
I appreciate your time and consideration. If you have any questions for me, please feel free to drop me an e-mail at heymattomalley(at)aol(dot)com.
Once again, I respectfully ask for your vote at Saturday’s reorganizational meeting. I will not let you down and shall always merit your support.
With every good wish,
Matt O’Malley

Saturday will be interesting. While I am also a candidate for one of these seats myself I hope that DSC members will strongly consider Matt’s candidacy. After all you have four votes for this category. Matt is a friend from college and I can vouch for his activism and commitment over the past few years.

And ditto. Chris Jenkins is one of the hardest working guys in politics. And he does it for the right reasons: the advancement of Democratic ideals and principles.

Congratulations on winning one of these seats on the first ballot. The DSC is very fortunate to have you.
