Barack Obama has won the GOP crossover vote in:
Iowa
Illinois
Missouri
Louisiana
Virginia
Wisconsin
Texas
In addition to the states above, Barack Obama received more GOP votes than Hillary Clinton in South Carolina, and they tied in Ohio.
Where did Clinton get more GOP votes than Obama? In Alabama and Mississippi.
So what explains this non-trend?
According to Scott Helman:
Until Texas and Ohio voted on March 4, Obama was receiving far more support than Clinton from GOP voters, many of whom have said in interviews that they were willing to buck their party because they like the Illinois senator. In eight Democratic contests in January and February where detailed exit polling data were available on Republicans, Obama received, on average, about 57 percent of voters who identified themselves as Republicans. Clinton received, on average, a quarter of the Republican votes cast in those races.
Ok, so …. Republicans voting for Obama are bravely crossing party lines!
But what about Republicans voting for Clinton?
Again, according to Scott Helman:
“I want our party to win. I want the Democrats to lose,” Limbaugh said. “They’re in the midst of tearing themselves apart right now. It is fascinating to watch. And it’s all going to stop if Hillary loses.”
So according to Scott, Republicans voting for Clinton are voting to tear apart the Democrats. Is there another reason maybe?
Walter Wilkerson, who has chaired the Republican Party in Montgomery County, Texas, since 1964, said many local conservatives chose to vote for Clinton for strategic reasons.
“These people felt that Clinton would be maybe the easier opponent in the fall,” he said.
Maybe another?
Not everyone casting ballots for Clinton did so primarily to sink her, however. Brent Henslee, 33, a Republican who works at a radio station in Waco, Texas, wanted to keep Clinton in the race to expose more about Obama, whom he sees as more “fluff than substance.”
Quick review of what we’ve learned so far:
Obama has won the GOP vote in all except for two states that have voted so far. This means that:
GOP voters for Obama:
1. Are bucking the party because Obama is appealing!
GOP voters for Clinton:
1. Want to help continue Democrats tearing each other up.
2. Think that they’re voting for the easier opponent in November.
3. Want to have Clinton expose Obama.
Is it completely impossible that there are other reasons GOP voters vote for Hillary? Maybe there are Republican women who support her? Is it completely impossible that there are other reasons GOP voters vote for Obama? Maybe some of them think he’s easier to beat in November and they want HIM to continue this race.
You’d never know that from the media.
Welcome to the Clinton Rules of Journalism.
When Clinton supporters say we’re getting unfair treatment, this sort of nonsense is what we’re talking about.
Quick recap: Barack Obama has won the GOP vote in all but two states that have voted thus far. All the media could talk about was how awesome his crossover appeal is. When Hillary won a slightly larger percentage of GOP votes in March than she did in January and February, the media starts writing nonsense like this, claiming that it’s entirely a GOP conspiracy to throw the election.

There was a segment devoted to how Obama won the Republican vote in Texas despite Rush Limbaugh, etc. in which they specifically said that Clinton did not benefit from Republican votes. If Republicans listened to Limbaugh, would John McCain be the nominee on their side. I think not.

p>I read. Actually, I couldn’t take it anymore so I skimmed as the article went along, it is horribly biased. How does this even make it as a story in the Globe? Never mind page 1!! Nice graphics though, I like pictures. Honestly, it makes Scott Helman seem like an incompetent hack.
