The House seat recently vacated by former Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) is in danger of flipping to the Democrats in Saturday’s special election, according to a poll conducted this week for Roll Call.
The race is IL-14 and the Republican, Oberweis, is known for such bad campaign tactics that the Chicago Tribune has broken from long tradition and endorsed Foster the Democrat.
This occurs while the NRCC, already low on money, in part because some of it appears to have been stolen by a treasurer who forged audits, has been pouring what little remains into this race. For added schadenfreude, the NRCC is beset by leadership fights, too. If the Republicans lose this seat, it will be even more demoralizing for them — and their donors.

Living within the Chicago media market I have been exposed to the majority of these ads. Personally I think the DNCC is playing this smart by not overly investing in the race since it will likely still be in GOP hands.
<
p>The district is just historically conservative and these are a group of blue collar conservative populists that do not like raising taxes. The most effective Oberweis is one attacking Foster on taxes.
<
p>That said no words could describe the disappointment I felt when Tammy Duckworth lost in 06 by a mere percentage points. The NRCC is wasting a ton of money defending what ought to be a safe seat so thats definitely a good thing moreover its important that Foster gets all the help he can since even though the demographics are against him he has run an incredibly positive campaign, his one negative ad is incredibly amusing, and I feel that the voters might just think positively for once and vote for a solid Democrat out in this district.

p>Also the GOP knifed themselves by nominating Overweiss over Hasterts preferred choice a female State Rep who was a centrist. Overweiss makes Tom Delay look like a choir boy so I really hope he loses.
