The media is making hay out of, among other things, Geraldine Ferraro’s statement to a local newspaper that
“If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept.”
They’re saying this is incendiary and biased. Seems pretty darned similar to Gloria Steinem’s piece in the New York Times where she said
“If the lawyer described above had been just as charismatic but named, say, Achola Obama instead of Barack Obama, her goose would have been cooked long ago.”
Her general argument, similar to Ferraro’s is that the public is tossing aside experience and going for someone they like for other reasons. I say they’re right! Senator Clinton has been in the Senate longer than Obama but the public likes him better!
