While that part of her plan is plain old silliness the problem arises with this: Murray’s bill will begin “allowing patients to choose nurse practitioners as primary care providers,”
So what do we really need doctors for anyway? If a nurse practitioner with extensive but far less education than a doctor, no malpractice coverage (except under the doctor), no ability to write prescriptions (under current law) can do the job why do we need doctors at all?
This is pure silliness. Nurse practitioners do incredible amounts of work but aren’t held to the same legal, ethical or professional standards as physicians with good reason: They have significantly less training. Murray’s bill will be a boon to the insurance companies because Nurse Practitioners cost less to employ and can charge less to insurance companies.
In short Murray is selling out to the insurance companies, hopefully for less than the cost of a box of tissues.
