Dear State Committee Members,
My name is Patrick Hart and I am one of the add-on youth male candidates for the State Committee. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been able to speak to many of you personally, but especially for those who I have not yet met or talked to, I wanted to write to introduce myself. I am a former field staffer for Governor Patrick’s campaign, an intern, local coordinator and volunteer on many additional campaigns, and a passionate believer in the principles that guide the Democratic Party — economic justice, fairness, equal rights, and a government that infuses all its policies with a deep sense of compassion. It has been a privilege to help put those principles in action while campaigning for many great Democrats — Governor Deval Patrick, former Lieutenant Governor candidate Deborah Goldberg, State Representatives Jamie Eldridge and Cory Atkins, and more. It has also been a privilege to work alongside many members of the State Committee, some of whose support I have earned in my current DSC campaign, including Nancy Stolberg, Kate Donaghue, Alana Murphy, and others.
My particular interest is in field activities and finding ways to bring more young people into the nitty-gritty of Democratic politics: knocking on doors, making phone calls, and talking to their friends about why they are Democrats. When I was in college, there were many opportunities to become involved in politics and activism, and I took advantage of those opportunities, eventually becoming president of the Swarthmore College Democrats and remaining active in Pennsylvania politics during my time at school. When I returned to Massachusetts, where I grew up, those networks were not as readily apparent. Because I’m a political junkie, that did not end up mattering too much — I immediately became an intern on the Patrick campaign, worked hard, and ended up becoming a full staffer there. I understand, though, that not every young person who cares and wants to figure out how to be involved has the time to investigate the political world. It has to be our responsibility as Democrats to make it as easy as possible for new people to become involved in our party and to show them that we see them not just as financial opportunities but as vital parts of the party’s infrastructure. In my hometown of Concord, I am beginning a term as Outreach Coordinator on our Town Committee — my goal there is to continually work to bring more young people into the process. It would be an honor and a privilege to work toward the same goal statewide as a member of the State Committee. Thank you for your consideration and I would love to have your vote on Saturday! Feel free to contact me at patrick.c.hart2006@gmail.com or 978-257-1790 if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Patrick Hart

Patrick was a great worker for Eldridge and Patrick, and I’m sure he’ll be a champion for progressives on the DSC.

It took a couple of ballots, but you prevailed. Good luck in your new position.
