The following swing states have Democratic Secretaries of State. They are listed in order of number of electoral votes:
Pennsylvania (21)
Ohio (20)
North Carolina (15)*
Virginia (13)
Wisconsin (10)
Iowa (7)
Oregon (7)
Nevada (5)
New Mexico (5)
New Hampshire (4)**
Total: 107 Electoral Votes
The following states have Republican Secretaries:
Florida (27)
Michigan (17)
Washington (11)***
Arizona (10)
Colorado (9)
Montana (3)*
North Dakota (3)*
Total: 81 Electoral Votes
* No, Montana and North Dakota are not swing states. Neither is North Carolina quite yet, most likely. The Obama campaign has declared that they are, though — along with Texas. While Texas is too ludicrous to countenance, I’ve included the other three for fairness’ sake.
** New Hampshire’s Secretary of State, William Gardner, has been in that post my entire lifetime. He’s generally seen as competent and fair by all sides. I believe he is a Democrat, but he steers clear of electoral politics.
***Washington’s Secretary of State, Sam Reed, is a Republican. However, he oversaw the disputed 2004 gubernatorial recounts that handed the governorship to Democratic candidate Christine Gregoire. His impartiality and steady hand earned him the emnity of his own party, but he seems largely trustworthy.
Granted, some secretaries are more ambitious than others. The Secretary of Colorado, for example, is an incredibly ambitious man who’s looking for a promotion to Congress this year. I wouldn’t trust him a whit.

What I don’t say here, I say here.

Making the implication that democrats are these incorruptible figures that will ensure that everyone gets a fair shake despite party designations and every republican is going to work to disenfranchise people is such a ludicrous notion.
<
p>This kind of generalizing being used on white/blacks/gays would be high crimes for you people.

I go out of my way to praise a Republican, Sam Reed (who was subsequently spurned by his own party). All’s I know is that in the last 2 presidential elections, Republican secretaries of state actively participated in exercises to suppress vote counts for Democrats.

However, the rule you propose is simply an assumption.
I admit, I see where you are coming from, and I do tend to agree with your stereotype.
The logic just isn’t sound.

then why should it have to be “fair”.
