In order to promote car-pooling to the State Convention, I am creating a thread with the intention that it can be used as a “ride board.” With gas at $4.00 and up, it makes sense to share rides. Now I don’t have much experience in this area, so others please pitch in if there is a better way to do this. I’m guessing that within our own wards and towns, we are already ride sharing, but for people on non-standard schedules and from more distant parts of the state, this may be helpful. I’ll kick it off.
WANTED: RIDE FROM CAMBRIDGE TO LOWELL ON FRIDAY EVENING
A friend of mine works in Cambridge, near Kendall Square and is looking for a ride to Lowell on Friday after work. The delegate has transportation home. Please contact me off-line at KateDonaghue@aol.com if you can help.
Our town committee’s listserv is also doing something like this. However, most town committees don’t seem to have listservs or websites, so this is helpful. I will be driving up to Lowell Friday for the various events, and so far have room; I intend to stay for the bloggins workships after the convention, as does my husband.
<
p>It is sounding like many delegates from Arlington don’t intend to stay, so I still have space to transport from Lowell back to the Cambridge/Arlington area [can drop and pick up at Alewife station by arrangement.] Feel free to contact me directly as to this.
I’ll be going up early Saturday from SE Mass (Middleborough, to be exact)
I’ll be leaving Cambridge/Somerville on Friday evening and coming back Saturday evening (staying overnight with family near Lowell). If Kate’s friend or whoever else wants one of those rides in either direction, contact me at .
Lowell line leaves from North Station at 4:10, 4:40, 5:10, 5:30, 5:50, 6:25, schedule here.
<
p>It also arrives at West Medford 13 minutes after departure (except for the 5:30 trip).
<
p>The last train back on Friday is 10:35, on Saturday, 9:00.
<
p>The station is less than a mile from Tsongas arena.
<
p>Anyone in the area can take advantage of the LRTA, which extends as far down as Burlington. However, service terminates early in the evening.
<
p>Ask me if you have a specific public transit-related question.
Trains leave North Station at 8 AM and 10 AM arriving in Lowell at 8:43 and 10:43 respectively. If you are a voting delegate I would advise the 8 AM train since you want to be sure that you are present for the 11 AM roll call. The 10:43 scheduled arrival time would be cutting it way to close for my comfort.
<
p>The trains back to Boston leave Lowell at 3:00, 5:00, 7:00 and 9:00 PM respectively.
You may want to try to set this up via Go Loco to make the process easier. This MA based company (from Robin Chase & friends, the folks that brought us Zip Car) sets this type of thing up so they can handle it easily.
<
p>Full disclosure: I do not work for Go Loco or Zip Car and never have.
