And what does John Kerry‘s GOP opponent stand for? Apparently, the answers are Mr. Not-John Kerry, and Being Not-John Kerry. Although he loves John Kerry’s website design so much, he copied it.
What positions does John Kerry‘s GOP opponent hold, and which issues are important to him? Well, going by the lack of an Issues page on his website, NONE and NONE! But he does have a Multimedia tab where we can watch him congratulate himself for
And here I thought the GOP was only obsessed with homosex.

Tuesday, September 16, 2008 is the date of the big Jeff Beatty versus Jim Ogonowski showdown at the State Primary.
Now that you mention it, it is interesting how Og is acting like he’s in the Dem primary with John Kerry. What party is Mr. Not-John Kerry in again?
“I am not now, nor have I ever been John Kerry.” I must admit, it is a fairly persuasive argument.
Besides the fact that although he did in fact join the US navy, is exit from same is rather vague and his conduct in Vietnam is deplorable.
<
p>Kerry’s conduct circa 1972 borders on treasonous. For those reasons alone he should be booted from office. The fact that the boobs in this state ever elected him to anything speaks volumes re how large masses of people can be made to swallow anything. Jim Jones proved that.
Ogonowski’s biggest challenge, as you know, is not defining himself or getting people to think he’s worthy of the job; it’s convincing people that Kerry isn’t. If he can’t convince people who have re-elected Kerry over and over that they ought to reconsider, it doesn’t matter what people think of him or what his positions are.
<
p>It’s an insurmountable challenge. Kerry has flaws for sure, but on the whole he’s viewed as acceptable at least, if not good, by the people who have been voting for him so far, and he hasn’t done anything particularly bad recently that would change people’s minds about that. Nevertheless, Ogonowski’s making a go at it, constructing the most plausible “reconsider Kerry” message his campaign can think of. Based on these videos, I think we can tell what that message is:
<
p> – Kerry has been in Washington too long,
– he’s coasting, not doing his work anymore (not passing bills),
– and he’s gotten too comfortable with it.
<
p>In fact, the Kerry of the past few years has been more energized than in the previous decade, and he’s been very activist in the Senate. Authoring bills hasn’t been his strong point so that’s what Ogonowski is focusing on, along with some vague generic stuff (he’s been there so long; Senators get perks; he hasn’t visited this or that diner or school recently), to make his case.
I can deal with six lackluster years of an ineffective Ogonowski since he can easily be replaced by an effective Democrat like my own congressmen Mike Capuano, Jim McGovern, or Barney Frank. All three are far more consistently progressive, consistently effective, and consistently there for their constituents. Even Ted Kennedy who some might argue has been there too long still sends letters back to his constituents. Mine was a form letter but he did personally sign it so that shows at least some dedication unlike Senator Windbag who doesn’t return emails, doesn’t return phone calls, doesn’t return letters, and is barely in this state.
<
p>He should also be punished for losing to the worst President in history. This man has never worked a day in his life and its time we throw him out-even for another loser like Ogonowski.
<
p>God I wish we didn’t have to trade a Democratic loser for a Republican loser-itd be nice if one of those three effective Congressmen actually had the balls to challenge Kerry. But then again being a Democratic congressmen in Massachusetts gives you tons of job security that risking a run for Senate might not. I dont blame them for keeping put though it is a sad fact that each one of them ON THEIR OWN can get more done as lowly members of the House than a sitting US Senator and former presidential candidate. Maybe President Obama can make Kerry Secretary of Transportation or Ambassador to France or something and relieve us of this loser.
is a long time, and Ogonowski (or Beatty) is just one more vote for a Republican majority leader, one less vote against good judicial nominees by a Democratic president, and one more vote against cloture on important pieces of legislation that (hopefully) a Dem president wants to advance in the Senate.
<
p>Look, I’m no big fan of Sen. Kerry, but I don’t want to live with the consequences of a GOP Senator for the next six years.
didn’t personally sign anything. Do you know what an auto-pen is?
<
p>Also, DCA is right. Get your head out of the trees and take a look at the forest, for God’s sake. The Senate is reasonably close, and every Dem vote counts. The further we are from 60 votes, the harder it is to get anything done.
…I can’t understand why you wouldn’t want to keep one of Obama’s biggest Senatorial cheerleaders back to work come January ’09. Kerry makes President Obama instantly more effective by virtue of his presence in the Senate and Oganowski’s absence.
<
p>Do you expect President Obama’s agenda to get passed by itself? Or is it that you think Obama is so awesome that he doesn’t need an ally like John Kerry in the Senate? Like it is said above, the closer the Dems are to 60, the better.
But it’s a risk he’s taking beating “Not-John Kerry” into voters heads.
I don’t see that there’s much risk to it. If he focuses on defining himself, however well he does that, he has zero chance. If he successfully convinces people that Kerry shouldn’t be re-elected, he would at least have some chance. Sure it’s a long (long long) shot, but I don’t see that he’s risking anything.
is to walk and chew gum at the same time. that is, convince people kerry shouldn’t be reelected while simultaneously defining himself in positive terms as quantity xyz. not everyone is that coordinated i suppose.
Your bringing back memories with that bit, I used to say not the momma all the time to my dad since I used to be a big fan of that show for some odd reason. Even though it was semi adult humor it somehow appealed to my three year old self and for whatever reason my parents let me watch it.
voting for a Republican candidate over Kerry this year, if the Republican candidate succeeds in putting a lot of daylight between himslf and (i) Bush, and (ii) Congressional Republicans, 2001-2006. And not necessarily by being liberal, but by being actually conservative, instead of what passes for conservative on Limbaugh’s show and in the Santorum household.
<
p>I don’t hold out much hope of that happening, though.
<
p>Kerry could do with a good scare, though.
Kerry needs to roll his staff over. They got “post office syndrome.”
…as much as I think that John Kerry is a pompous windbag, I would prefer a liberal Democratic windbag to a Republican one.
<
p>The problem I am having is deciding who to support in the Democratic Primary. Kerry is anti-marriage equality, while his Democratic Primary opponent is pro marriage equality.
<
p>I could sort of understand Kerry taking such a position on marriage equality when he was running for President, as the rest of the country isn’t as progressive as this state is. But, I don’t understand why he continues with this position now that his Presidential aspirations have passed.
Kerry is anti-marriage equality, while his Democratic Primary opponent is pro marriage equality.
<
p>Which one is elitist? Come on, throw us a bone here.
Unless you’re suggesting he was just pandering during the campaign.
“Help Jim spread his positive message.”
<
p>I watched the splash video and the only message I saw was decidedly negative.
…shows the impeccable class, rapier wit and refined dignity I closely associate with the Mass GOP.
Because of the homage to the ad that killed his campaign in ’04.
I just think Ogo’s flash cartoon is cheesy and unfitting for the first impression of a serious candidate for United States Senate. The second ad shown has far more dignity. Leave the Jib Jab rip-off for YouTube or supporter sites.
<
p>And I don’t think one ad killed Kerry’s campaign. I think it was poor response to swift boating and an utter inability to communicate Bush’s failures as Commander in Chief. How anyone can vote for a president who lied about WMDs and sent Americans to die in Iraq without proper bullet proof vests, radios, and armored vehicles is beyond me. Why were families spending their own money to send soldiers walkie-talkies and body armor?
Hey, Son’t forget.. there is a Democrat – Ed O’Reilly of Gloucester – who is taking on Kerry in the Democrat Primary. O’Reilly is a good man and a good Democrat. Let’s have our cake and eat it – get that windbag Kerry out of the Senate AND keep the seat Democratic this November.
He’s got my vote in the primary-though I am a little upset he is using the swift boat s–t for some of his attacks on Kerry.
Listen Kerry is a loser but that assault on an actual veterans patriotism was the most disgusting thing Ive seen in campaigns in awhile, not to mention we ended up debating a war that ended thirty years ago while guys my age were dying NOW. Anyway as much as I dislike Kerry he definitely get the short end of the stick with that one.
<
p>But yeah Eds not Kerry and believe it or not thats a great qualification. Also to those other people we are pretty close to 60 without MA. And if Ogo runs a great campaign he should be able to force Kerry to listen to us, spend time in this state, and force him to play ball. Listen I am under no illusions Kerry is beatable, he simply isn’t. The coattails of the nominee should carry him through. But a guy this lame and mediocre needs to be challenged so he knows he can’t take us voters for granted. A guy gets as lazy as Kerry when he gets 80% of the vote every six years. A real challenge could do him so good.
You deplore his swiftboating yet plan to vote for him anyway?
<
p>Aside from his not being John Kerry, what positive qualities does he bring to the table?
<
p>He calls himself a better environmentalist than Kerry, but he has no discernible history of environmental activism.
<
p>He calls his campaign “grassroots-driven,” and yet paid for signatures to get onto the ballot. http://www.eagletribune.com/ar…
<
p>He insults small business. http://wbztv.com/video/?id=614…
<
p>As far as I can see, he’s got nothing to run on except for the fact that he’s not John Kerry. For some people, especially those who buy into everything the local media has been saying about Kerry for the past 30 years, that may be enough. It’s not even remotely enough for me.
<
p>And, by the way, name-calling is no way to win over votes for your candidate.
“Stay the course!” “Do not surrender!”
Maybe you’re looking at a different Senate than I. I’m looking at the US Senate:
<
p>49 Democrats
49 GOP
1 Connecticut for Liebermam
1 independent
<
p>The Dems will likely pick up a seat in VA in Nov, and will gain some subset of OR, NM, CO, MN, NH. It’s unlikely (but possible) that they’ll win in NC, ME, TX, or AK. LA is currently Dem and could go the other way, though I don’t think it looks likely at this time.
<
p>So, including the two non-Dem caucus-goers, we’re looking at something like 54 or 55 Dems, and if we’re exceedingly lucky with a landslide, 57.
<
p>Even with the best results imaginable, the Dems are still 3 votes short of overcoming a filibuster, and because many of their hypothetical wins would be over more moderate GOPers, picking up the additional 3 won’t be easy.
<
p>A Republican senator from MA would make it that much harder to overcome a filibuster.
“Kerry’s conduct circa 1972 borders on treasonous.”
<
p>then please for the Love of God Almighty in Heaven Above get off your spotty behind and forward your evidence to the Department of Justice.
No…don’t answer me, don’t go flipping thru the internet sarcasticon for a stinging rejoinder, just Forward Your God Damned Evidence.
<
p>Go!
Do It!
<
p>Until then you are a mealy-mouthed punk.
is what I hear and jeff Beatty is the biggest fraud you will ever see. This “anti-terrorism” expert is nothing but a self-promoting wannabe who would be too arrogant even for Washington.
They had well over 20,000 that they submitted to the various cities and towns.
Jim has reported that he delivered over 20,000 signatures to cities and towns.
<
p>
<
p>emphasis mine.
I had heard at the end of last week he only had around 8,000 that had been certified but the late drop off to town halls explains that.
two weeks to certify the signatures. If he was at 8000 on the third day of signature certification that means he’ll be fine…..
have 3 weeks to certify signatures

Bad form Mr. Ogo.
<
p>P.S. Even when I selected mute on your cheesy lamer flash page, the “splash” at the end of the skit still had audio.
