Karl Rove has refused to appear before a Congressional committee that subpoenaed him. If I were believed to have crucial information about a matter of pressing national interest, say if I was a sideline photographer for the New England Patriots or something, and Congress wanted me to answer some questions, could I refuse? What would happen to me if I decided not to show up? Could I say to Congress: “This is a political stunt- no way am I gonna waste my precious time with you clowns. I got better things to do.” Would that fly?
In all seriousness, what do you guys think Conyers and Pelosi will end up doing- chickening out, as usual?
Please share widely!
After I posted this I had a bit of deja vu, then I realized that Rove already was held in Contempt of Congress last year. I guess “C of C” just ain’t that bad a thing (a badge of honor, perhaps, like getting suspended in high school for smoking in the restroom and mouthing off to the principal)-maybe we should all try it after all. Then we’ll all be just as Kool as Karl.
Whatever the reason, ’bout time Congress started to do the work of the people.
<
p>I guess Karl is out of the country (“fled” is too strong). There is a rumor the Bibi wants to hire him for his campaign. Even Nancy is talking about impeachment (“A day late and a dollar short”, you say?).
<
p>Perhaps the lowest rate of approval ever for Congress might have something to do with this. I know its cynical. I hope the light of freedom shines in our Congress – but they might just be more feared of a disgusted electorate throwing them out than trying to correct the grievous wrongs.
<
p>We’ll have to see how much sound and fury vs. action happens. It should be a good show.
<
p>In the best scenario, the United States could look more as a nation of laws, in the worst, the nation we have become. Maybe it is time to climb out of the hole.

Can the Sargeant-at-Arms ask a judge for a warrant for Rove’s arrest, or simply arrest Rove himself. If this is going to mean anything there need to be consequences.
Cogress should use its rights associated with inherent contempt to arrest Rove.
I mean, can they send a SWAT team into the White House? Do they have to wait for Rove to be wandering the halls of the Hart Senate building? Will it be on C.O.P.S.?
until the vast middle of the country has even heard of Karl Rove and decides to remember waay back to civics class…something about “checking balances? Congress, D or R has no incentive to “create a fuss”. Sure, seeing the constitution shredded (and ignored) by all three branches infuriates some of us, but the rest of the country is more concerned about the new chicken biscuit breakfast at Mcdonalds.
Should we eliminate them, too, because the “middle of the country” doesn’t know how, why or what is being changed?
<
p>”Middle of the country;” what exactlty do you mean by that? Do you use that as a geographic reference to midwesterers who you apparently don’t think are all that intelligent or to refer to the “average middle class” of America, which is an endangered species?
<
p>Is it really worse to check the box for “don’t know/don’t care” than to check the wrong answer?
and admittedly you make a good point, the proof of my hypothesis will be as they say, in the pudding. Lets wait and see what actually happens after all of the sturm and drang. If nothing real happens (um…again) then you and I can argue about whether congress felt compelled to act –and if not, why not.
In the mean time, by using the term “middle” I am referencing the “Vast Middle” not geographic middle. I have no assumptions about the midwesterners level of intelligence, although I will admit to assuming that many here may have had the capacity to interpret “middle”.

then drag his arse to the Capitol, if they have to. If they’re worried about how they can do that, write up a new bill giving them a Congressional SWAT Team and just label it the “Congressional Counter Terrorism ACT.”
…just send James Webb after him. He’ll hunt Rove down like the Terminator…
when he (or an aide or somesuch) tried to bring it in an airport. Too lazy to google…
I meant TSA.
…, I found this absurdity very amusing this morning.
Webb doesn’t need a gun to kill a man.
If Webb is as dangerous to Rove as you are to funny, Rove better go undercover.
…is dangerous to Rove, or to anyone else for that matter.
<
p>But regardless his he-man image, his oratory skills can hardly be considered riveting.
