The US is said to be ready to talk about opening our job market to skilled foreign workers. The controversy is stated in the above article as follows:
The issue of granting temporary business visas to skilled foreign workers is controversial as many politicians consider it an immigration issue that should not be included in trade pacts.
However, Lori cautioned us that the real controversy is in losing jobs for qualified American workers.
Please note that your taxpayer dollars are being used by government organizations to legally thwart the hiring of qualified American citizens. There are now reports of US medical student grads losing out on residencies because of preference being given to OPT students. Is it really in the best interests of this country to deny available jobs to citizens and green card holders?
She continued to demonstrate that the strategic plan to utilize and increase H1B visas and other non-immigrant visas – those that do NOT lead to immigration and enhancement of this country with opportunity for permanent residence are designed with the explicit knowledge that qualified US workers may be passed over.
The DOL’s Strategic Plan, Fiscal Years 2006-2011 (pg. 35) states: “…H-1B workers may be hired even when a qualified U.S. worker wants the job, and a U.S. worker can be displaced from the job in favor of the foreign worker.”
