Just watched 38 year-old Constantina Tomescu-Dita of Romania win the women’s Olympic marathon and 41 year-old Dara Torres take the silver in the 50 meter freestyle swim. Forget nationality, I’m now rooting for my generational cohort – all the athletes old enough to remember the 1970’s – and the women’s movement.
Speaking of how women rock, how is it that PDM’s half dozen for 2008 only includes one woman, and excludes Sara Orozco, who is running a key race against Republican Scott Brown?
(The six selected are Carl Sciortino, Jamie Eldridge, Astrid af Klinteberg, Ken Donnelly, Doug Belanger, and Jim O’Donnell.)

Full disclosure: I was the first BMG volunteer for Sara

p>It makes sense to talk about sports and Sara Orozco in the same breath. When Sara talks about her life story she tells a story about working hard at sports. She is just a little over 5 feet tall yet she managed to play volleyball well enough to earn a volleyball scholarship to the University of North Carolina.

p>Sara is a great candidate. She has strong progressive values. She cares and knows a lot about the issues facing her district and the state. If you get a chance to meet her don’t miss the opportunity.

p>I love the way they’re taking ground back in this youth-obsessed culture of ours.
