Barack Obama has chosen his VP but isn’t telling yet.
The Democratic presidential candidate told USA Today on Thursday that he went with someone who is independent and would challenge him in the White House. He also said he wanted someone who is prepared to be president and would help him strengthen the economy.
He wouldn’t say whether he’s informed his pick yet. He says he won’t reveal anything else about the decision until he announces it.
Those are your final clues. Who is it?
Please share widely!

sounds like he could be picking Clinton, but I highly doubt it.
laurel says
she’s not independent. although she’d certainly challenge him i have no doubt, lol! i figured gates because he’s kinda smart and would definately be challenging (what former ceo would be a wimp?), certainly independent of standard politics, and he is a large part of our economy. and, he has international planning, marketing and health research administration experience. doesn’t hurt that he’s buds with that other really right guy – what’s his name? anyway, if i were obama trying to think outside of the box, i’d choose gates. bill jr, by the way. although bill sr. i like an awful lot.
laurel says
who is decidedly not right.
centralmassdad says
as used in this context, in your understanding.
laurel says
obviously, it could mean anything. i’m not going to belabor my guess much, since as i’ve said before, i’m a bit weary of this waiting game. it’s just my gut feeling from the “clues” above. odds of my being right are 1 in 300 million.
centralmassdad says
I’m also tired of it. I guess they need to stretch it across as many news cycles as possible.
<
p>It is probably going to be something of an anti-climax, after all of the build up and hype.
laurel says
could just mean it’ll be elmer fudd. they knew they wouldn’t get excitement after the fact, so better rake it in up front. đŸ˜€
centralmassdad says
He’s a millionaire, and owns a mansion and a yacht.
laurel says
gee, what i said in jest might actually make sense….
jasiu says
“I would be vewy pwoud to be vice pwesident.”
centralmassdad says
Remember Gates’ deposition? It could be Admiral Stockdale all over again.
<
p>Unfortunately, I think the job requires someone who is used to the political stage.
laurel says
by independent he didn’t mean lieberman, lol! will he arm wrestle The Forgetful One for him? ;D
centralmassdad says
as he has a date with Zell Miller to get tips on speaking at Republican conventions.
laurel says
you can be vp candidate for both parties. that joe – he’s somethin special. he’s gonna out-maverick da maverik
laurel says
vp candidate for both parties simultaneously
centralmassdad says
centralmassdad says
I didn’t immediately get “The Forgetful One”
<
p>Seriously, though, McCain looks bad. I saw him on the news the other day for the first time in awhile, and was shocked at how un-spry he looked, shuffling around the stage.
laurel says
in that “draft” video. in profile, he has the same stooped posture as my very elderly father. not that there’s anything wrong with being elderly (some of my favorite parents are,ya know!), but i watched that video to hear what he had to say, not oggle an old guy. but that is what jumped out at me – his elderly stoop.
noternie says
There could be a stream of video images of McCain looking really, really old put together. Posted on YouTube, plastered all over the internet, etc.

But I really have no idea.

Those clever Democrats. Obama’s just a front guy. He’ll pick Bill Clinton; wins in November and immediately resigns leaving Bill Clinton for another 4 years, effectively end-running the 22nd amendment. Bill will hand off the baton to Hillary who rule for 8 more years.
<
p>It’s Clintons as far as the eye can see.
laurel says
very creative. after bush for 8 and with the threat of mccain, i could think of worse.
tom-m says
I know you’re just having fun, but most people not realize that the 22nd Amendment also limits a President to a total of 10 years in office, not just two terms. So Bill will have to turn things over to Hillary half-way through his term. THEN she could be elected twice.
gary says
How is that?
<
p>
tom-m says
You are correct. Reading it again, my interpretation is wrong.
<
p>However, in conjunction with the 12th Amendment, which states “no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.” I would argue that a past 2-term President is constitutionally ineligible to be VP in the first place.
<
p>Obviously, BO isn’t going to pick Bill for VP, but I would be curious if he could serve in the Presidential Line of Succession were he appointed to a Cabinet. I know Madeline Albright and Elaine Chao have been bypassed because they weren’t native born. Interesting battle for Constitutional scholars…
gary says
<
p>But, Bill Clinton is not ineligible to the office of the President. He’s ineligible to be ELECTED to the office of the President.
z says
If these final clues are the best clues, perhaps the CW that it will be an experienced foreign-policy hand is false.
<
p>Perhaps it will be more out-side-the-box message reinforcement choice?
<
p>Obama’s pre-Convention, VP roll-out tour begins in Springfield, IL and ends in Billings, MT.
<
p>hmmm…Brian Schweitzer?
jasiu says
<
p>In recent days, it’s looked like Bill lent Barack all of his “It’s the economy, stupid” signs from his first run. So the VP pick may echo that.
cden4 says
He’s certainly independent, and would be quite a challenge. I think he’s slightly insane but we could really use someone who actually understands global economics…
laurel says
could nicely balance the slight (fear of) senility the other party’s got going for it. worth considering.
jaybooth says
“ron paul” and “understands economics” in the same sentence?

I am so sick of this…why do ya think I’ve completely not watched TV news for weeks? Sick of hearing about who THEY think Obama (or McCain for that matter) are going to pick.
laurel says
you decided to grace us with your pick. So, who’s the mystery contestant, and will they be behind door number 1, door number 2 or door number 3? Mr. Lynne, show Lynne what she can win if she plays the VP Absurdity Game!
irishfury says
I moved down to Mississippi about a month ago and we just got cable last week. That was nice until one of my roomates left with his tv, so now I’m back at square one. And you know what? I’m actually enjoying not watching the endless/self-perpetuating crap that is cable news.
sabutai says
But I bet it isn’t Biden, Bayh, or Kaine. Obama got where he was by defying conventional wisdom, and it’d be surprising to see him follow it on the VP pick.
<
p>I can’t imagine it being Hillary, so why go with some pallid establishment guy? Hope it’s a new Democrat from out West — Anderson/Schweitzer/Napolitano type…not some stuffy amendment filer in Congress.

Waiting for the magical sound that signals a text message. Was at my dentist’s office in Burlington this afternoon, no AT&T service, so I could only play with my Koi Pond. (I love the Koi Pond, best 99 cents I ever spent.)

<
p>By the way, in Burlington I saw a Donnelly HQ, many Donnelly signs, a handful of Cangiamilla signs, and one lonely Hurd sign.

after all, why interrupt the media talking about McCain’s seven houses but only five fingers?
charley-on-the-mta says
Did he say he didn’t want the job? People still think of him as a Republican, which he’s not, and really wasn’t, except when he was …
<
p>And he’s from Medford.
charley-on-the-mta says
We could hope, but no.

could be anyone
<
p>”strengthen the economy”
<
p>not Wes Clark (big surprise).
laurel says
it IS clark, and here’s how:
strong military guy makes country feel secure.
market responds by investing again.
economy rebounds as a result.
clark for vp.
<
p>see? so easy. if brian cameneker could find a relationship between air quality and marriage equality, surly we can make “strengthen economy” apply to any dem vp prospect. đŸ˜€
