Barack Obama had stated that Americans should tune up their cars and keep their tires properly inflated to save gas. He said that doing so would save more oil than what would be gained by offshore drilling. The McCain campaign hopped on that statement and began handing out tire gauges marked “Obama Energy Policy” and put advertisements on the web with the same message.
Obama fought back forcefully saying that it’s as if McCain has “pride in being ignorant“.
Soon thereafter McCain responded,
Senator Obama a couple of days ago said that we ought to all inflate our tires, and I don’t disagree with that. The American Automobile Association strongly recommends it.
Why then, even after McCain has admitted that properly inflating tires could be beneficial, is he still running these “tire gauge” ads on Rasmussen and I presume many more sites?
Here’s a picture I snapped of it since different advertisements are shown on each refresh.
I think it’s a huge question that needs to be answered.
I did a search on the topic and found an AMERICAblog post on the same topic. He discussed McCain advertising the tire gauge on his main website, but I just checked and that’s no longer up there. However, McCain is still advertising on the web.
Or maybe not…
Any chance these will show up at Building 19?
