BMG – Making a Difference Here in Massachusetts – BMG Canvass?

It seems an appropriate time to reflect on the role that Blue Mass Group plays here in the Commonwealth.  The candidates used it as a forum to reach potential voters.  When I walked into the caucus last night, a number of people mentioned to me how much they appreciated the posts outlining the rules and regulations of this rare process.  

This morning I read Tara’s comment quoted here in part.

I am proud to have been supported by such a committed democratic contingency as you who are participants in the BMG.  I know that my reaching out to you made all of the difference in my success tonight.

We have developed a real community.   People pay attention to what is said here.

Last summer we talked about doing a “BMG Canvass” as a way of strengthening our community and meeting in person, as well as a tribute to Lori Bonatakis.  I’ll throw out the suggestion of Sunday, October 19 in NH.  We can go to whatever location the campaign suggests.  I would be inclined to go where we can support Carol Shea-Porter, but most importantly to go where we are needed.  I’m thinking of a mix and match event:

Noon to 4 PM: canvass

4 to 5 PM: report back regroup

5 PM: dinner and drinks near the canvass area.

    Most Bay Staters lament Massachusetts’ relative insignificance in presidential politics, but a pair of local LGBT political power players aren’t content to just sit on the sidelines and hope for the best come November. Marc Solomon, executive director of MassEquality, and state Rep. Carl Sciortino have partnered with LGBT activists in Ohio to charter buses full of LGBT volunteers for Barack Obama to the battleground Buckeye State next month.

    The buses will roll out of the Bay State on Oct. 17 and return Oct. 21. Those joining the ride can expect two solid days of campaigning for Obama in central Ohio. Solomon said he and Sciortino decided to launch their Not-So-Straight Talk Express to combat the frustration they felt about the 2004 election.

  3. one on a Saturday and the other on a Sunday?  I would be up for it if it were on a Saturday.

    • ….having a hip replacement due to an auto accident and the damage to ME…means I can go a mile a minute on the internet, but not up hill and down dale hour after hour.

      p>Is there  such a thing as fixed point canvassing – you know, I bring a folding chair, have an Obama sign, and dialog with people?  That is how I do it in my precint for local elections…
