Folks, I’m just going to cut right to the chase today. I’m not going to sugarcoat this. The issues at stake here in this election are too important to be messed with.
I’m going to tell it like it is. People, John McCain can not be trusted to run the economy.
He admits he doesn’t know anything about it. That’s right, he said he didn’t understand the economy. He said it, not me.
And you know what – while I don’t agree with him on much – on that point I know he’s right.
And if he doesn’t know anything about the economy – then he must be listening to people who say they know something about it.
So who is McCain listening to? Well, it’s the big corporate lobbyists who run his campaign and who worked with George Bush that must be telling him what to say. Why else is he pushing the Bush agenda so hard after eight years of proven failure?
So they tell him that the Bush tax cuts that they helped write into law must be extended. McCain says sure thing.
They tell him that the solution to health care is to tax the health plans of everyday workers but to do nothing to expand coverage to those in need. McCain says you betcha.
These lobbyists who run his campaign then tell him that we just have to keep doing more free trade agreements that don’t protect American workers. He says of course.
Now forgive me for wondering – is John McCain putting country first or corporations first here?
I’d say the answer is clear. His economic policies are good for the corporations who McCain’s lobbyist buddies and advisers work for, but not for the American people he claims to care so much about.
McCain’s economic plan is just a rip off of the Bush/Cheney agenda that got us into our current mess. More tax cuts for fat cats. More tax breaks for big corporations.
That’s bad enough on its own but let’s think about what that means for the rest of us – for my family and yours. And I’ll tell ya what it means – it means higher taxes for everyone else and more deficits that our grandchildren will be paying off.
I mean think about it. We’re fighting two wars now – spending billions every week in Iraq and Afghanistan. That money has to come from somewhere right? And when Bush and McCain cut taxes for corporations and the financial elite – that means the money has to come from you and your children. It means we have less money for our schools and hospitals. It means we have less for our future and our dreams.
Of course now that these lobbyists have convinced McCain to sign off on expanding the Bush/Cheney economic plan for another four years – he’d rather keep all that quiet and try to distract attention from these issues.
His campaign manager even said it – this campaign should not be about the issues, it should be about personalities. That’s right – no issues matter here folks. Your health, your security, your home, your schools – not really important in McCain’s world.
He and his lobbyist buddies are hoping that you’ll forget the last eight years and can be duped into signing up for another four of em’.
Of course that’s not very easy to do because people do care about the issues. But McCain and his lobbyists think they’ve found a way to pull the wool over our eyes.
Just look at all the attention being paid to Sarah Palin. She’s all the rage these days.
But as much as McCain would like to hide behind her, she and her family are not the issue here – your family and your future are.
McCain wants this race to be a personality contest and not a contest of ideas because if it is – they know they can’t win. The last eight years of failure are a testament to the failure of their ideas.
McCain is hoping that by just putting out a new face he can cover up the fact that all he offers is the same old and tired plans we’ve already tried.
But folks, while you can put lipstick on a pit bull, ultimately it’s still just a pit bull and we’ve had too many old, angry, attack dogs running this kennel for the last few years.
So I’m going be straight with you all. John McCain and the Republicans have brought our country to its knees when the world needs America standing tall. Our military is overstretched. Our economy is in the dumps. We are more dependent on foreign dictators for our oil than ever before.
So you really mean to tell me, that the same guys responsible for this mess deserve another four years to keep us down?
HELL NO!!! FOR OUR CHILDREN’S SAKE WE CANNOT LET THAT HAPPEN.
I have no doubt that America can be greater still in the years to come – but not if we give the keys to the White House back to the same old dogs who’ve run our country into the ground.
So America – let’s tell John McCain and George Bush and all these folks who’ve been running things in Washington that we won’t be fooled again. That we’re not buying the same old political magic tricks. That we don’t want America divided when we need common solutions. That we don’t want politics turned into a popularity contest. That issues matter, the future matters, real change matters.
America, we can be greater still. The future is bright. The choice is clear. Its in our hands. Now. In this election. God, give us the strength to change and let us pray that tomorrow is a better day for America and the world.
trickle-up says
It’s a good message (though I’d leave the Palin references out). I can suggest some others.
<
p>But nothing is going to sink in once. There has got to be follow-through and repetition and message discipline on all fronts.
<
p>We’ve already landed some pretty telling blows–judgment and temperament, how many houses, etc. Problem is, we haven’t developed or stuck with them thematically. So, they don’t stick.
<
p>I appreciate the time you took to lay this out, lanugo. It’s good; my issue is not with your message but with the need for better sustained delivery.
