Memo for the poll workers in Ward 20, Precinct 8, where I voted today:
1. It’s not really okay to hover around the voter while he’s voting. He will ask for your help if he wants it, but mostly, he’d like to vote in private.
2. The “security sleeve” is to prevent you, the poll worker, from seeing the ballot. So please, let the voter use it, and let him insert ballot into the machine on his own. He doesn’t need your help, and mostly, he’d like to vote in private.
3. When the voter gives you his street address and you can’t find it in the book, it doesn’t mean that the voter isn’t registered. It means that you’re looking in the wrong place. “N” comes after “M,” not before it.
Thank you,
TedF
