Of course, I should have linked to the website that Mike Coffman clearly thinks is more important that his silly old day job as Secretary of State. Because Mike is about done with being a mere paper-pusher, and wants a promotion to Republican Good Ole Boy Congressman, one that he’s likely to get. As a matter of fact, Mike was so accomplished as Secretary of State that his campaign bio can’t scratch up a single accomplishment while in the post.
The good news? Well, this is sorta good — Coffman decided on paper balloting for Colorado …in December. Better almost too late than never.
The bad news? Mike wants to be a Good Ole Boy bad, and is already imitating them. He’s a pro at breaking ethics rules, conducting his campaign on the taxpayer’s dime. And Mike knows that you don’t get to be a good ole boy by prioritizing fair counts over party health — Sam Reed can tell you that.
An unaccomplished Secretary of State who sneers at ethics rules and is on the make for a better job. Exactly who we want ensuring a fair and full count of what may well be the pivotal votes of 2008. But wait, it gets better…
Mike knows that the “abrupt resignation” of Colorado’s director of elections two months before the election can only be a good thing. Want to see results the same day? Forget it, says Coffman. He couldn’t manage to deliver absentee ballots correctly for the primary to the flippin’ candidates, and won’t answer questions about it; a Denver Post columnist calls Election Day “the biggest, and potentially most disastrous, day of Mike Coffman’s career.” under the headline “no Vote of Confidence in Coffman”.
Oh, and what does Mike think of immigrants, who make up a large part of the change in political leaning we’re seeing in Colorado this year and are the target of the Tom Tancredos of the country?
“Congressman Tom Tancredo never wavered on the issue of immigration reform and nor will I.”
Mike will make a great GOP Congressman — unable to do his job, uninterested in ethics, “unaware” of the same from his employees. It’s as if Tom Delay got plastic surgery and moved to Colorado.
At best we have a diffident incompetent running what may be the critical electoral exercise of this cycle.
At best. Buckle up.
