Since my last post about HRC, things have only gotten worse.
While they publicly denounced the Log Cabin Repubilcan’s endorsement of John McCain, the Human Rights Campaign has recently given thousands of dollars to Republicans, and continues to be a premier sponsor of the Log Cabin Republican Dinner. (See the leaked, angry e-mail from the Stonewall Democrats on QueerToday.com)
And let us not forget that they endorsed Joe Lieberman, one of McCain’s biggest supporters. HRC chose Lieberman over Ned Lamont, who, unlike Lieberman, was pro-marriage.
Recently, the Human Rights Campaign has endorsed Susan Collins a Republican in Maine who supported all of George Bush’s right-wing Supreme Court nominees. Equality Maine endorsed her progressive opponent Tom Allen. (That’s HRC for you – constantly dividing up the LGBT community and stepping on the toes of local organizations.)
The Human Rights Campaign issued a statement a month ago in which they claimed protests of the organization had “nothing to do with organized labor.” (Even though in San Francisco the keynote speaker, the Mayor of L.A. refused to attend due to labor boycotts)
But the Hotel Workers Union 26, Unite Here! in Boston, has another story.
After months of campaigning, Unite Here! finally convinced HRC to move their fancy Gala from the Hynes Convention Center to the Sheraton. Why? Because for all their past dinners HRC has used non-union caterers and venues for their dinner – they even hired Aramark, a company that received one of the lowest scores for gay rights in one of HRC’s own equality indexes. Aramark continues to be boycotted by labor unions for many claims of worker mistreatment and discrimination.
All of these recent developments come on the heels of HRC’s shameful exclusion of the Trans community – they have lost their one and only Trans board member and continue to anger trans activists who have been protesting HRC galas around the country.
QueerToday.com has sparked a new coalition that will boycott and demonstrate at the HRC Boston Gala on October 25th in front of the Sheraton.
We need your support. In cities nationwide local politicians have publicly denounced HRC and boycotted their dinner. In New York City last year, every single LGBT elected official boycotted. At the dinner in San Francisco this year, many prominent politicians including the scheduled keynote speaker backed out and supported the boycott.
Boston, you’re up!

I’m trying to be helpful here. I was three graphs into your post before I realized you weren’t talking about Hillary Rodham Clinton. If you’d spelled out Human Rights Campaign in the first reference, you’d have saved me some confusion.

The same thing was pointed out multiple times on milo200’s last post on this subject and the title was finally changed.
<
p>So, milo200, please spell out Human Rights Campaign in your title and any more posts on this subject. “The meaning of a communication is the reaction you get” and I don’t think the reaction you want is people thinking you are writing about Hillary Clinton, is it?

and I was getting upset even before reading it, saying “why is someone slandering Hillary here at this late date?”

especially as I think there is a Hillary fundraising dinner this week mentioned on another site. So, when I got to the word “they” I was confused for a moment.

What is the HRC rationale for not endorsing the most gay-rights oriented candidates when there is a choice.

QueerToday are the folks who called Barney Frank a fucking douchebag. Take milo’s pronouncement’s with a grain of salt.

Hi –
<
p>QueerToday.com never called Barney that name. One of our bloggers, Trevor Wright did. And it was right after Mr. Frank attempted to divide up ENDA to leave out Trans people – so he was justifiably very upset. He expressed that anger through imagery in the style of Perez Hilton – it was clearly meant to be a humorous expression of his anger.
<
p>When QueerToday.com officially releases a statment or endorses something it is made very clear through press releases and language that states “queertoday.com endorses…” Otherwise, what our bloggers – there are over 250 now – say, cannot reflect on the site anymore than what you say would be seen as an official bluemassgroup statement.
<
p>I hope that clarifies.
<
p>Furthermore, the fact that one of our bloggers called Mr. Frank a name has nothing to do with the fact that the Human Rights Campaign has given thousands of dollars to Republicans and continues to endorse pro-war, anti-immigrant, anti-labor candidates.

so I just fill in the blanks by assuming that they prioritize ties with ranking members more than they require tight adherence by pols to pro-LG legislation (I leave out B & T because B’s are largely invisible in HRC talk, and T’s have been downright betrayed by them). If my assumption is wrong, I’m happy to be corrected by an HRC officer.
