Madia is an attorney, a Marine Corps and Iraq war veteran, and the son of immigrants who came to America from India with just $19. He was born in Boston and grew up in Minnesota.
As a Marine Judge Advocate, Madia advised military commanders on legal matters and served as prosecutor and defense counsel in over one hundred trials. He was one of the first attorneys to successfully defend a gay Marine from discrimination by the military.
Madia is running in a top-ten congressional race that is considered a toss-up by all the pundits. Madia is endorsed by Senator Russ Feingold’s Progressive Patriot Fund, the Human Rights Campaign, the National Stonewall Democrats, Planned Parenthood, and numerous others. It is located in the Twin Cities suburbs and has been held by Republicans for the last fifty years.
If elected, Madia would be only the second Iraq War veteran elected to the U.S. House of Representatives and would be the only Indian-American in Congress. And we could break that 50 year deadlock of Republican control of this district. We can truly make history by supporting Ashwin Madia for Congress.
Ashwin’s Campaign Manager is a familiar friend to many of us on Blue Mass Group. He was my Chief of Staff from 2001 – 2004 and also was Linda Dorcena Forry’s Campaign Manager for her election to the State House in 2005. He also served as the Campaign Manager for Jarrett Barrios’ campaign for Middlesex County DA before leaving for the Human Rights Campaign. He has been at the Human Rights Campaign working as the Midwest Regional Field Director immediately preceding becoming Campaign Manager for the Ashwin Madia for Congress campaign.

Hello again. I would like to just write a short reminder about the event I’m sponsoring this weekend.
<
p>In addition to our presidential race, it’s also important to maintain a Democratic majority in the House, and to make a filabuster proof majority in the Senate.
<
p>As Laura Kiritsy of Bay Windows writes:
