John McCain and Barack Obama spoke for about 10 minutes each at the Al Smith dinner in New York yesterday. Both were genuinely funny, and genuinely gracious to each other. It’s well worth watching — it’s a welcome respite from the humorless intensity that both have been putting out for months.

it really is coincidence that I posted video of McCain from Fox and of Obama from MSNBC. Those were the two best quality ones I could find — for some reason the audio on some of the McCain YouTubes was distorted. If you have a link to a better quality video of McCain with good audio, let me know.

I found it really interesting how comfortable McCain looked in comparison to the debates or even his stump speeches. Obama was pretty much the same person you see all the time plus punch lines. It just makes me wonder how much McCain is being over-handled. Not that I have any pity for him – it’s his campaign after all.

The jokes are really quite good — you have to think that they’ve each got experienced comedy writers working with them.
