I’m sitting here watching the game, missing RemDawg and Don Orsillo. These guys on TBS, Chip Carey and Buck Martinez, are awful. It’s sort of like listening to Bill O’Reilly pretending to do an unbiased commentary on a presidential debate.
<
p>I knew Harry Carey. I listened to Harry Carey. Harry Carey was one of the greatest baseball announcers in the history of the game. Chip, you’re no Harry Carey.

I wish we had gotten him instead of Carey and Martinez. They’re putting me to sleep.
In a similar situation in 2004, I was freaking out (what happens if the Angels win Games 3-5?? Typical Sox flameout!)
<
p>But now that the Sox have won the World Series a couple of times, this is all much less stressful. I’m actual more annoyed (that the Sox haven’t won already) than excited right now.
<
p>I don’t miss the bad old days of desperately hoping that the Sox would win a World Series (if I did, I’d start rooting for the Cubs). But I’m not quite as emotionally invested as I used to be (probably a good thing, on balance).

I find it less stressful because (i) they are a deeply flawed team, especially with respect to the bullpen, and therefore (ii) I don’t expect them to advance very far.
<
p>The quality of “not expecting them to go very far” is different now. It isn’t excruciating, “Argh! Here we go again, it is always the same!!!” low expectations, it is “Well, this team doesn’t have the bullpen of their two recent WS Championship teams, and doesn’t have the offense to cover for the bullpen; should be a busy offseason for the front office.”
<
p>Anything they do is gravy, this year.

I feel a lot more confident about Lester’s performance this evening than Beckett’s last night. If the Sox pull out a win, I expect the Rays to take the ALCS.

a tad worrisome in the early going.

Ninety pitches in the 4th inning…

p>Whew, wasn’t sure he was going to get out of that jam.

3 runs just like that. Amazing.

between innings. First a McCain “he’ll raise your taxes” ad, then an Obama “he’ll tax your health care” ad. Amusing.

Beckett has lost it.

Great hustle at first. I think the moment for Manny to shine has arrived.
