The crosstabs are interesting too. Right now 14% of Democrats would vote for McCain and just 9% of Republicans would vote for Obama. That sounds to me as Obama’s numbers have more room to grow than McCain’s.

just curious, but where do early voting results come from? are these just self-reported results by people polled who say they’ve already voted? they can’t be real vote counts by law, am i correct?

Two indicators that might be used are the early voting equivalent of exit polls and an analysis of the registrations of voters. You can say, for example, that 54% of early voters were Democrats and 42% were Republicans. Of course you can’t absolutely guarantee that they are voting party line, but it’s a good indication.
