Deregulation of radio has worked about as well as the deregulation of the banking and financial industry, that is not at all.
It has become glaringly apparent that the radio industry is being held captive by a handful of powerful corporations who are in the back pocket of one political party. In fact, they have become the whores of the Republican party. No one would normally care if the radio industry came down with an incurable STD from its anal attachment to one party but deregulation and the end of the Fairness Doctrine has made radio and in particular Talk Radio the PRAVDA of the Republican Party allowing no dissent voice of equal measure. [ don’t give me the crap about AirAmerica. Bad Talk Radio is just bad Talk Radio without reference to party affiliation]. However, with the end of the Fairness Doctrine the ass kissing butt of the Republican Party has been given time to develop the Limbaugh et al without worry or concern that they would have to have a balanced presentation.
The original idea of the end of the Fairness Doctrine was that degregulation would bring diversity to the radio airwaves. It did the exact opposite. A few powerful conglomerates paid off the FCC and now hold all the major and powerful radio frequencies across the country.
We see the danger this has caused in the final days of the presidential election. Talk radio has become a cesspool of fecal discharge contaminating the commonweal with a diarrhea diseased ranting up to and including death threats to the Democratic candidate for President. That stench is inhaled with glee and passion by both local and syndicated talk show freaks putting the very life of Barak Obama in danger.
This country cannot wait for a repeat of November 23, 1963 to happen before it acts to open the airwaves again to all and not to just one political party.
For the safety and well being of this very nation no one group should be allowed to control the public airwaves and to contaminate them with its poison.
One of the first acts of the new administration and the Congress must be to reinstitute the Radio Fairness Doctrine at the local, national and syndicated level. The present deregulation is putting the very nature of this country in peril with extremist who control those airwaves. Their power to control and deceive must be put in check.
