What’s your brew of choice going to be today while the Pats (hopefully) clobber the Dolphins?
We all know Charley won’t be drinking Sierra Nevada Pale Ale! My question is, does Charley not like this particular brand, or does Pale Ale not jive with him in general?
I’ll be sipping on Wachuset Green Monsta Ale.
Dogfishhead? Never had it? Get the 90 Minute IPA!
Fan of Stouts? Lager? Got a case of Sam Summer you JUST put in the fridge?
GO PATS!
Please share widely!
But I’m a big fan of stouts.
<
p>Brooklyn Brewery has a seasonal black chocolate stout that is absolutely wonderful and is available now. Check it out if you’ve never tried it.
Out at the pubs, I drink Guinness almost exclusively, but when I stop at the packie I’ll get a bit more adventurous. (Hell, I even picked up a six pack of MGD 64 this weekend!)
As for the Brooklyn stout, I picked up a six pack couple of weeks ago, not noticing the ABV until I got home. (Usually the high gravity micros will come in a four-pack, like the Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA.) To paraphrase Stephen Colbert, it was strong enough to blind a pirate! It was tasty, though.
Don’t forget that nutmeg…
I convinced a friend to take a run down to Luke’s Liquors in Rockland last night and they sure enough had the Dogfishhead 90 min. Their selection beer, wine, etc is overwhelming to say the least, but you’ll find something that you are looking for.
<
p>I’ve tried so much stuff and can’t remember what I do and don’t like, so I’ll throw a few off the top of my head choices.

UFO Hefeweizen
<
p>For those who dig hops, like as in the 90 min IPA, try the limmited release Samuel Adams Hallertau Imperial Pilsner. It’ll be gone by January.
<
p>Harpoon IPA is my old standby and I still like the traditional Sam Adams. I’ve had Sam a zillion times, so it’s no longer fresh to my tongue. But that first sip after a long hiatus reminds me of how great a beer it really is.

It’s almost like drinking a delicious pine tree!
Wherever I am in the world*, I always order the same thing: whichever beer was brewed closest to where I’m sitting right now. I figure it guarantees diversity, supports the local economy, and minimizes fuel usage in delivery to the pub.
<
p>Plus, it really is nice to explore culture, including the diversity of beer.

One exception: I always drink stout at Matt Murphy’s Pub at Drinking Liberally.
RyePowah!
<
p>Yes, the 0 I threw you on the other thread was a joke.
and I was somewhat disappointed. Half the beer was out!
… and loved the Scottish Terrier Ale I got there.
I do this at any bar. If Sam Adams is the closest brew, that’s what I drink. If I’m in Pittsburgh, it’s Iron City. Old Style in Chicago. In St. Louis, it’s time to Budweis. In Dublin it’s Guinness, north of County Dublin it’s likely Harp, and down in Cork it’s Murphy’s. Down in Chile it was Escudo or Cristal. In China: Tsingtao, Reeb, or SnowBeer.

p>It’s true, it’s not all great. But seriously — it’s beer. When in Rome…
<

<
p>… have a Moretti or a Peroni?
Hey, what if you find yourself equidistant from Sam Adams and Harpoon?
<
p>And does this mean that you never have any foreign beers on US soil? Or any out-of-state beers when raising a pint in MA?
Get your ass to Lowell. 😀
Check out the Mayflower Brewing Company. As the name would suggest, they’re down in Plymouth. I’ve had the porter and the pale ale. They were both pretty good.
…because most of what Wachussett Brewery does is excellent. The Country Ale goes great with food, and is available in many restaurants out here. Also good are the porter and the Monstah ale; they pay attention to getting the balance right in all their varieties. I’m not a fruit-beer guy, but some people swear by the Blueberry Ale.
drinkable porter, available @ T Joe’s.
I bought a 4-pack (yes, 4-pack) of the 90 Minute IPA from Dogfish Head and had one with dinner. I’m very pleased! Thanks for the recommendation!
because it would not be a good call for one to drink 6.
Any Shaefer beer fans out there? 🙂
Because tblade gave you a 6. 😉
<
p>As for me, I don’t drink beer, can’t really stomach the stuff.
<
p>I feel so very left out. ~sniffle~
because you’d balk at the price of a 6 pack but somehow don’t do the math on a 4 pack.
<
p>It’s just like coffee… a pound of coffee isn’t a pound. Instead of raising the price, they just reduced the quantity.

You forgot to do the math on double posting. 😉 Hehe.
Can’t find it to many places – the Harvest cafe in Hudson always has it.
I am fond of IPAs and I’ve tried quite a few. The Dogfish 90 is a imperial IPA — stronger than you average IPA. If you like the Dogfish 90, try the following:
<
p>Stone IPA (usually found in a 22 oz bottle)
Harpoon Leviathon (recently released)
Lagintas Maximus (22 oz bottle)
Southern Tier Imperial IPA (22 oz bottle and 11% alc)
Ballantine Ale is still available at some of the finer outlets. Keep it in an unheated basement temperature.
…is my beer for special occasions. Expensive but worth every penny.
Ipswich Oatmeal Stout. Mmmm.
I guess that makes me a Philistine…
“Guinness for Strength”. It’s the original Myoplex.
<
p>Guinness is solid pint that has never disappointed me.
Im a big fan of Bass Ale and watched the college games at a local bar while having some Bass. It goes real well with burgers and fish and chips. I’m also a big fan of most Sam Adams products, Smithwicks Irish Ale is quite good, Irish Reds from American imitations like Killians to craft brew versions like Great Lakes and Goose Island (none of these available in Boston sad to say). But Bass is probably still my go to beer.
