Already?

I guess the incredible landslide that President Obama got two years ago is still creating problems for you.
<
p>Actually, several of us posted that Senator Kerry does come to Massachusetts, even when there is no imminent election – you just didn’t believe us. But now, after a landslide victory, he is back having town meetings. So, you could admit you were wrong, rather than questioning whether nearly 6 years had gone by.

Hey, billxi can be a sourpuss on occasion, but billxi isn’t all bad.

Thanks KBusch and, indirectly, billxi
<
p>I was trying to joke about 6 years, but clearly did a bad job of it.

It is great that our junior U.S. senator is holding town hall meetings in Cambridge and Fitchburg. I am sure he heard a great deal from the people on the economy and the war when he was campaigning for re-election.
<
p>John Kerry will take back some input to the echo chamber that happens in Washington. His new clout as a leader in the Senate should assist in assuring that the nation is on the right path.
<
p>Also, John can insure that innovations, like robotics and other technologies, translate into jobs in Massachusetts.

On my previous post. But regarding the last paragraph: what has he been doing for 24 years? Does clout kick in at year 25?
karenc says
That is due to getting the chair of SFRC, a very important committee and the fact that instead of being in a Senate with a very narrow Democratic majority with a Republican President he will be in a Senate with a 58 – 60 Democratic majority with a Democratic President.
<
p>In the past, he had enough clout to be the leader of the delegation to Bali – where he was praised even by the Bush administration team for helping get the agreement they made. In addition, Kerry and Snowe also negotiated the agreement that led to the first increase in CAFE standards.
<
p>Even with the leadership against him, Kerry’s exit strategies for Iraq won out – becoming both the basis for all Democrats’ (except Joe Lieberman)plans and (his 2005 plan) was the closest to what Baker/Hamilton recommended. He wrote the first sense of the senate resolution calling for a regional summit that passed in 2006. This is clout that was independent of position.
<
p>A year ago, Kerry and Smith wrote legislation that was accepted by the Finance committee for their stimulus package with 20 votes (there are 21 members) that would have given states money to renegotiate bad mortgages that could be saved, but the stimulus package was filibustered by the Republicans. This legislation was passed as part of the Banking bill about a half year later.
<
p>Kerry also passed many bills to aid small businesses and veterans. Given the dysfunctional Senate in the Bush years, Kerry was one of the more successful in getting things passed. In addition, he was the 2004 nominee of the party.

it might be five and a half years before we see sen. kerry in massachusetts again.
karenc says
He spoke at the Energy Empowerment Revolution Rally on November 25. (http://www.jkmediasource.org/node/173 )
<
p>He made plenty of appearances in 2005, 2006 and 2007 as well. In 2006, these included 4 incredible Faneuil Hall speeches.
<
p>He is a US Senator, so he is in DC much of the time.
