Fortunately, the Mayor and the City Councilors are beginning to see the errors of the decision to rededicate this WWII memorial.
Specifically, a recent article of the Herald News indicates that more than 100 veterans have signed a petition “in favor of the removal of McGovern’s monument and square from the Miller green.”
Also, the Veterans Agent said, “The facts are a mistake was made.”
However, the elected officials are still slow to respond. The Veterans Agent indicates that “Everyone is against it [the new dedication.] I know that the mayor knows that,” he said.
One City Councilor, Pat Casey, has said that she will speak with the Mayor tomorrow. The City Council President also said that he was going to speak to the Mayor.
The elected officials are having a really hard time understanding that the Square should remain dedicated solely to Cpl. David Miller and all of the boys of the southern end of the city that served in the armed forces during WWII. That was the intent when the square was originally dedicated.
We need an additional push so that the elected officials will make the right decision to restore this WWII memorial.
Please send an email to the Mayor and City Councilor Pat Casey asking them to restore the Square dedicated to Cpl. David Miller.
