In what the “White Suits” at WBZ Radio – AM 103 and WBZ Television – Channel 4 say was a ‘cost cutting’ measure both station fire two prominent African-American On-Air Talents – Liz Walker at Channel 4 and Lovell Dyett at WBZ Radio.
One wonders if those “White Suits” at ‘BZ felt they could get away with this slap at the African-American Community because we have elected an African-American, Barack Obama, President.
The African-American community should speak up.
Liz Walker has been a presence positive community involvement in the Boston area for many years and Channel 4 fired her.
Lovell Dyett has been a fixture at WBZ Radio for 38 years with his Saturday evening talk program.
Dyett’s program was one of the very few places where a “white-bread” American could hear an African-American voice and point of view that was unlike any other under the direction of Lovell Dyett. Lovell Dyett ended each program quoting Duke Ellington’s closing line, ” I love you. I love you madly.” The same could be said back to Dyett’s avid listening audience.
The “White Suits” at WBZ Radio and Television should be held accountable for acting like slave masters in the old South who bought and sold Black flesh as a commodity. Walker and Dyett are not a commodity to be bought and sold and the “White Suits” at WBZ should be called to answer for their questionable if not racially insensitive acts.
Question? How many “White Suits” in the Executive Suits at WBZ were terminated….? None, I would wager. As always, the problem with both radio and television executives is that most of them are slim balls who came out of the sales department and haven’t got a clue about quality broadcasting.
Most are whore mongers who would F*** their grandmothers if they could make a sale. And they are the ones responsible for the firings of Liz Walker and Lovell Dyett.
Let’s Boycott WBZ Radio 103 and WBZ Television Channel 4 and their sponsor until they apologize to the community both Black and White.

Were shown the door last Spring. WRKO laid off it’s entire news staff a while back. NECN just fired “legend” news anchor Tom Ellis, never mind all the layoffs in the newspaper biz. Times are tough in the media biz these days and your knee jerk ranting about “racism” is not supported by a spec of facts. (OK, so you never called it on “racism”, but you blamed the “white suits” for firing black people.)
<
p>And given that Lovel and Liz each had a weekend show, they have little impact of the public discourse within our community.
<
p>Personally, I think Liz Walker has been overrated as a journalist from day one. I will always remember an ignorant comment she made on air about a rape case involving 4 male Doctors and a woman (may have been a nurse) in the early 80s. At one point Liz said something like, “what is surprising about this case is the alleged victim knew her attackers”. Anyone that knows anything about rape understands that a many victims know their attacker. I remembering calling the TV station twice to speak with Liz and correct her, but she never took the call or called me back.

Maybe he just thinks that Tom Wolfe runs the Boston media.

PJ:
Your comments are profoundly irresponsible.
pj says
Profoundly irresponsible describes the action by the “White-Suits” at WBZ Radio and TV. Okay, you did your bidding today for your bosses at ‘BZ. Your check is safe for another week.
<
p>Hope a reporter from the Boston Globe takes notice of WBZ’s profoundly racially insensitive firing of two prominent Black on-air personalities. There are few enough of them in this city.
laurel says
Ok, now I’ll wait for the ad hom attack from PJ. This should be good – can’t wait to see what you come up with. Don’t keep me waiting!!! (this is fun – like a trained seal)
pj says
Okay, I throw you a mackeral……..
laurel says
someone has trained you well. i wonder what else you don on command….
<
p>can’t wait to see what you have in store for HLPeary!

WBZ has had many lay-offs…two were announced this week who were previously on late night/all-night talk radio slots on WBZ…Lovell Dyatt and Steve Lavalliere…one caucasian, one African-American…but their race had little to do with their departures…ratings and advertising sales decide who stays and who goes…Lovell has been around a long time, I used to enjoy listening to him years ago and he has stayed on the BZ payroll in spite of the fact that he gotten rather stale, is rarely prepared and rambles on to fill the time when few people call in to talk to him…he just got boring…Steve Lavalliere was better but the all-night slot is a place that can be filled with “paid info programing” that saves the station considerable money…(especially since the audiences are so low)…
<
p>WBZ radio’s on-air line-up for talk programming does not include a woman (of any color or background) and considering that more than half of their late night listeners are female, that’s seems like a more glaring shortcoming.
pj says
Yup, no programming executive worth her or his weight would have made these programming cuts. But your statement reads right out of the radio sales whores playbook. To hell with programming just sell more Herb Chambers trash.
laurel says
you have perfected persuasion by a-thumpin, no doubt about it. do you give private lessons?
tblade says
That’s some quality analysis right there. Nothing fights alleged bigotry better than slanderous non-sequiturs. I was unconvinced that WBZ was run by bigots, but then I learned that they enjoyed immensely the company of prostitutes and that they might consider intercourse with their grandmothers. Very persuasive. I mean obviously, grandmotherf***ing whore-lovers hate Black people.
joets says
That kind of bigoted talk has no place here.
tblade says
…I had forgotten that this was a cause so near and dear to your heart. It should have been obvious to me that grandmotherfing whore-lovers don’t hate – the word “love” appears directly in their name! I apologize to anyone in the grandmotherfing whore-lover community that was offended; I did not mean to besmirch the exemplary reputation of such fine people.
pj says
Again, trust some inquisitive Boston Globe reporter – if there are any left for the Globe is not far behind WBZ – will pick up this story of WBZ blatant discrimination against on-air talent who happen to be African-American.
laurel says
i thought your contention was that they were fired because they are black. if you want to globe to take over, you’d better word the premise carefully!

It’s TV “news”.

Whether it is Joyce K., Bob Lobel, Tom Ellis, Liz Walker, or Lovell Dyett, it is a loss to the community to see these journalists and on-air talents go.
<
p>Just like local radio and newspapers, TV and syndicated radio need to stay on their game.
<
p>I make no inferences about the folks in the sales department, but I’ve heard worse.
