Statement from Presidential Inauguration Committee to HRC on Bishop Gene Robinson
January 19, 2009
PIC communications director Josh Earnest responded today to the outcry over Bishop Gene Robinson’s invocation prayer being omitted from HBO’s coverage of yesterday’s pre-inaugural concert:
We had always intended and planned for Rt. Rev. Robinson’s invocation to be included in the televised portion of yesterday’s program. We regret the error in executing this plan – but are gratified that hundreds of thousands of people who gathered on the mall heard his eloquent prayer for our nation that was a fitting start to our event.

Barack shows himself to be no stranger to the low art of bullshit peddling.
and I pray the BS does not continue. I do love the way you put it, though.
For some reason, I don’t think there will be an error tomorrow during Barack being swarn-in, or for that matter Rick Warren’s hoopla.
they got all the kinks out during the Robinson dry run.
Gene R.’s sermon will be rebroadcast at the actual ceremony. So enough whining.
fulfill a promise to the lgbt’s. if it;s like the others, it’ll be rebroadcast on a 12 inch screen behind the stage.

p>and it’s not whining, it’s well-earned criticism. and if obama doesn’t get on the ball regarding civil rights, you’ll be hearing a lot more of it. if you don’t like the noise, work with us to get the legislation passed that will quiet us down.
How could they have expected the prayer to be televised when it was scheduled to occur before HBO went live? The error was a miscalculation that they could promote the aura of unity while sidelining those pesky gays who upset so many good “Christian” people.
It may not be right, but it sure as hell would be fair.
barring him from the proceedings would be “right” – even if they hadn’t thrown Robinson under the bus.
I tuned in to NPR to hear Bishop Robinson’s invocation on Sunday at the concert. I thought I must have just missed it. But I suppose so didn’t the Inaugural Committee.
<
p>Today I heard lots of news people talking about it and I read it on the New Hamshire Episcopal Church’s website. So, the message got out in spite of adversity.
<
p>It was a very nice prayer!
