The Inauguration of our 44th President was something so full of memories that I don’t know where to start. Perhaps the usual chronological order will help me to organize my thoughts. The drive down from MA on the Saturday before was uneventful. The amusing part of the eight hour drive was the observation of many cars decorated with the usual bumper stickers and the smiles on the driver’s and passenger’s faces (even in a fully loaded Prius, they were all smiles, and from the stickers I suspect they were driving down from Maine!) My brother had an excellent spaghetti dinner waiting for us.
Sunday, we had to drive into D.C. to pick up Inaugural Ball tickets. That went well enough (my spouse only had to wait in line an hour), then we thought we would head over to the Virginia side of the Potomac. The Garmin of course knew the best way – just head over to the Memorial Bridge! You know, that bridge right next to the Lincoln Memorial, where that FREE concert was just about to start. We figured that the 14th street bridge would do just as well, and it allowed us to cut right across the National Mall to check on the preparations (thousands of portable toilets and crowd control barriers) and the throngs heading west for that concert.
The next event on our dance card was the Massachusetts party at Nationals Stadium. The President’s club was already crowded by the time we got there at a little after the official start, 8PM
It was cold, my heart was warm
