I have a hard time seeing him step down as speaker and staying on as a rank-and-file member of the House. That would be quite a demotion, and I suspect he has too much pride to be in the game again without holding all the cards.
…but that prediction was before the recent in-law payments…the real question is:
<
p>Will a third (untarnished) candidate appear?
mcrdsays
After the indictments and prosectutions or plea deal–DiMasi will be numer three or is it number four. Doesn’t this just speak highly of the state of politics and state legislators in this state? One party equals trouble with a capital T. do dissent. Everyone is in on it. Everyone on Beacon Hill has their hand out for the perks handed out by “the speaker”. All of them fighting for their place at the public trough. Nothing is on the level, everything is a deal, no deal too small. As long as these people carry the water for the ‘activists” they get reelected and then they steal even more—but that’s OK, because they are the voice for progressive causes. The end justifies the means. Do you ever look in a mirror?

As I said before, no one wants my endorsement or support.

p>Valor rules if DiMasi decides to go. He just got re-elected speaker and has no reason not to ride this one out. But if you and the Lowell Sun have faith in your sources, it’s special election time soon.

Austie77 has it right. The word is Tuesday and the word is DeLeo
I’m checking the Sun’s website via my mobile, but can’t find it. Is the article pulled down, or is it just that the Sun sucks so bad at updating the mobile version of their site?
<
p>OK, this is pathetic. I’m checking for updates on this story on my handheld, on a Friday night while at a fancy restaurant. Putting. The. Damn. Thing. Down.
So if this goes down, what’s the fallout?
– We have a speaker battle that seems(?) to be more or less decided for DeLeo. Any chance that things will turn out differently? Does Rogers have a chance of a last-minute breakaway? Any alternate candidates going to swoop in and win everyone over?
<
p>- We’ll also have a special election for Mista Speakah’s rep. seat. Someone said something the other day about people making calls in the north end. Any obvious candidates right now?
<
p>- What else am I forgetting to ask? (Other than the obvious, which is how will all of this affect the business of the House and the Commonwealth moving forward?)
mcrdsays
The commonwealth moving where? This state ain’t going anywhere but down with the current elected officials. Using the term “leadership” would be inaccurate. Governor Patrick has been such a scintillating success since day one. Yes we can. Hope. Change. Together we can. I honestly can’t believe the voters bought it—but PT Barnum was far more astute and observant than I could ever hope to be.
We need a two party state—REAL BAD.

whenever your party wants to finally put up successful opposition, I’ll be happy to argue against them.
<
p>Until then, the “every pol is a crook” hyperbole is getting tiresome.
seriously, did you ever learn that you’re supposed to link key ideas in a paragraph? You go from talking about how we have all crooked politicians in Mass, then talk about Patrick. Say what you want about him – you’re entitled to your own opinion – but there has been nothing about him or even his administration (at least that I can think up) that’s even hinted at corruption. So, you may not think he’s doing a good job and you may not like his politics, but to try to link his administration to other corruption happening in the state is patently absurd, dishonest and completely incoherent.

at the MMA meeting yesterday stated the DiMasi story as a fact, and the DeLeo follow up as a fact. And he’s usually reliable.

I am sure there are no tears for Sal in the corner office.
<
p>In fact, I am curious about whether or not anyone thinks the Governor played a role in Sal’s exit. There is obviously no love lost between the two. While DiMasi has a well deserved reputation as a wily politician, a guy who is adept at moving his agenda “behind the scenes” and by any means necessary, Deval Patrick’s street fighting skills are not so readily apparent.
<
p>Is it possible our Governor “facilitated” this seemingly swift fall from grace? Or is it simply a case of self destruction, as the pigeons finally came home to roost?

Patrick develop some streetfighting skills. At this point, I think it’s still wishful thinking.
led to Sal’s downfall. it wasn’t until sal stood up to the casino lobby that any of this crap leaked out. And both Rogers and DeLeo support casinos. I doubt it was Patrick – much more likely people from the House that orchestrated Sal’s downfall.

Is anyone concerned that the next Speaker, Mr. DeLeo, is Pro-Life? Anti-Gay Marriage (forget about his vote at Con/Con)?

LoL…he played no role in the demise of DiMasi; even the average back-bencher could run rings around the corporate “do as I say” elitist Mr. Patrick when it comes to state house politics, never mind the more seasoned ones…watching them torture the Governor with “process” and “deliberation” and the “legislative process” is superb…it drives business people (like patrick) crazy…although he did get beat up when he was ^ and he yelled at the Worcester mayor so maybe Milton Academu did teach him how to deal with Plebians!
but looks like as Speaker, from the language.

would definitely be both– he’d be quite a distraction.

I nominate Rep. Pam Richardson (D-Framingham).
