Even though I had just met Setti, I felt like I was sitting down with an old friend. As we talked about everything from public financing of elections to the current state of Newton, he was extremely knowledgeable and clearly a man that was concerned about substance. Not only did he have plans for Newton and building a relationship with the local colleges, but he also wanted to hear my ideas. To understand my experiences living as a college student and relationship my college has with its community.
So it was not just the experience and plans that I had read about that impressed me, but his genuine interest in bringing people together and getting things done. I got to meet with someone that cared enough to take the first step, and to be proactive. I was impressed not just by his resume, but by his character, and that is why after I got back from Newton I recommended to our executive board that we make Setti our first endorsement. As a College Democrat I am proud to support Setti, and hope that this serves as a first step in building bigger bridges between colleges and their communities in the future.

You are president of college democrats…what do you believe in terms of freedom. Do
you subscribe to government as it is today and do you realize what has transpired in our country, our state. Are you going to be a politician and will you actually represent the people? Here is short take of my view of the present day and the evolution to come.
… Taxes, more taxes, invasion of privacy What has happened to our freedom. Government keeps devising ways to either nickel and dime us, track us, or curtail our freedom. To follow our “demographics so they can figure out where to hit us next. You stop at the gas station, you already pay tax there, the dump, the beach, the grocery store, the mall, the toll booth. Everyplace you go you get taxed, everthing you do you get taxed. On every corner there is a camera, in every public place there is a camera. The politicians of the world do not think in terms of constitution. They think in terms of “revenue”, of power, of control, inside their little box their universe. I can state for a fact that government has taken over our lives. Things started out pretty simple
with payroll taxes and property taxes. That is what was supposed to fund government, but government got irresponsible. Instead of maintaining vehicles, now they throw them away when broken, buy new, instead of living within its means, they devised fee for services. some states are selling turnpikes. They don’t ask the citizens anymore, they just do it, despite the fact the citizens own it. Kind of like you paying the mortgage on your home for 25 years and government comes along and takes it because one of their cronies wants to put a mall in so the town can get more revenue. When are people going to wake up and stop this. The town fathers, where I grew up in Plymouth, Mass. must be rolling over in their graves at this point. They took pride in Town Meeting form of government. The people approved the budget, spent the money and had the say where their tax dollars went. Then came the advent of the town manager, the planning board, the zoning board, the conservation commission. All needed power and money. more boards, more big wigs, more blowhards, less freedom and that’s not gonna change unless we change it. Just b e ready for the next step “regionalization” they will start out by recommending consolidation of school districts to be “cost effective”. then land use, then your town and city taxes will go to regional government. Your voice will get smaller, you will be meaningless, we will have become what we disdain. A nation will have become the socialist republic of the US. Time for a tea party!

The last time Suffolk Democrats endorsed anybody, their candidate narrowly won a special election. This time, as if an endorsement from them wasn’t asinine enough, Suffolk Democrats and ex-Suffolk Democrats ganged up on the poor guy and are running his campaign. This guarantees a definite loss. Setti’s choice to bring youth into politics is a wise move, but to have amateurs run a portentous campaign, like his, is a shame. It is astounding how ignorant the amateurs are when it comes to the day-to-day operations of a campaign. I sit there in awe to their naïve, yet conspiratorial view of the world of politics. And what befuddles me even more is that Setti chose to delegate them such duty without prior hands-on political campaigning experience, besides holding signs and screaming. My man Setti. Best of luck!
