Seriously, has there ever been a less effective advocate for something than James Aloisi has been for Gov. Patrick’s wide variety of transportation fundraising schemes? He’s like the most fast talking, say-anything car salesman you’ve ever seen, but this one will get really angry and start yelling at you if don’t buy what the over-priced clunker from him right away. And, right now, I am grateful for that.
I heard on the radio that at the transportation hearing/meeting at the State House today that the administration was forced to admit that they’ve laid of exactly zero toll takers, even though last September they said they were going to lay off 25% for an alleged saving of tens of millions of dollars.

This points to something that it seems Gov. Patrick just doesn’t understand, or maybe just doesn’t think is relatively important. The reason people insist on reform before revenue is because there have been so many broken promises, deception, and lies in the history of the Big Dig (hello, Mr. Aloisi). People just don’t believe there will be real reforms if the cash wish-list of the current transportation bureaucracy set-up is met. Things like this broken toll taker promise (and Marion Walsh and Jamaica and Jeffrey Simon and Jim Aloisi and $15 billion and leaks and Millena del Valle…) are exactly why we need to see real reforms before any new revenue.
