When I first started attending classes in January of 2006 the McCarthy Campus Center was being remodeled. At the time, there were TWO disability accessible mens rooms. Granted, 4th and 5th floors, but at least in the building. Now, upon completion of the renovation project, there are no disability accessible mens rooms. Somehow I just don’t consider that progress. Just another feather in the cap of social Darwinism. Maybe if we can’t GO there, we won’t go there. I am the only physically disabled full-time student in attendance there. I can see why.
So let’s just wipe all those flowery we-love-everyone mission statements clean of the part about dis-a-anything. To quote president Obama: “Just words” See, I do listen once in a while.

It seems that you have finally figured out how to post about an accessibility concern without sounding angry at the world.
dcsohl says
The “social Darwinism” line fails this test.
christopher says
I still think it’s an improvement over other posts of this theme from him.
huh says
No gay bashing is a big win. Even the social darwinism comment is restrained, for him.
justice4all says
My daughter attends Framingham State. The McCarthy Center is home to the DSO, so that just seems more than a tad inconsistent with a college campus that promotes access to people with disabilities.

<
p>I do feel for you…and wonder how I can help. Have you called about the school about this?
billxi says
The Disability Services Office will close. The college administration is nudging (forcing) the director into retirement. He will not be replaced. He had the gall to do his job and advocate for his charges. The college doesn’t like wavemakers. I have addressed the issues with the college president. Things get worse. The college has never promoted accessibility for people with disabilities.
justice4all says
and I will make a call on it. This is disgraceful.
huh says
BillXI is not one to let facts get in the way of his complaints.
huh says
The Framingham State Web page lists the DSO as having 5 staff members and a wide range of services. There’s no mention of it closing. Google provides nothing, as well.

<
p>If you send me the DSO link, I’ll tell you what happened to the people. Your link is outdated if the office is room 510
billxi says
When you’re ready for more disability-unfriendly examples. I have pctures.
huh says
Here’s the DSO link: http://www.framingham.edu/Disa…
<
p>It talks about room 518. Older docs talk about 510.
<

billxi says
That would not be a selling point for Framingham State College. The older docs would list 5 people, I can identify their current relationship with the college, if they still have one.
huh says
Last I checked, state building codes required public bathrooms to be handicapped accessible.
billxi says
I beg of you? But you can’t see what is not there.
huh says
I don’t understand why you’re not filing a complaint to the state rather than blaming Obama.
joets says
but he didn’t blame obama anywhere.
huh says
Calling liberals social darwinists is one of billxi’s favorite taunts.
joets says
if you posted those pictures (which, after all, speak a thousand words), I’m sure it would resonate to someone and cause some movement on the issue.
<
p>Have you thought about sending those pics into a media outlet? Channel 7 loves stuff like that.
david says
If you can document what you’re saying, we’ll front-page this.
billxi says
Get ready for a large e-mail! I’m sorry, but for the rest of you assholes, kiss mine! I own this one!

I’d love to see this get publicity if it’s real.

dschol even offered to hook him up with a friend at the New England ADA Center.
<
p>At the time his complaints included wheel chair lifts too small for wheelchairs and Braille “gibberish.” Both are fairly incomprehensible to me. AS dschol said, what’s the market?
<
p>Here’s hoping he comes up with the photos. As I’ve noted before, he repeatedly claimed to have gotten a divorce to stay on medicare. It turned out not to be true.
<
p>I am glad to see he left the homophobic comments out of this round.

I’m sorry, I’m too busy trying to have a life. In spite of you naysayers. I seriously appreciate the support I have received on this matter.
huh says
Your response has been to ignore us or call us assholes. It’s the source of the skepticism.
dcsohl says
A good friend of mine used to work for the New England ADA Center, and she still has lots of contacts there.
<
p>Assuming that what you say is true, of course. You do have a history of name-calling and getting into shouting matches around here, only to
disappear“have a life” when actual proof is demanded, or when you get backed into a corner.johnd says
Don’t listen to any of the “bitchers” here. Must be hard to be in a wheel-chair and not have access to a building and then hear from people who have never been there that there is access. Good luck!

goldsteingonewild says
I have trouble imagining this could be true, but stranger things have happened.
<
p>Having had 2 occasions to take public buildings through expensive renovations, accessibility was usually the first thing they talked about!
<
p>Architects don’t design public buildings without accessible bathrooms; building inspectors don’t give occupancy permits without accessible bathrooms…if true, it would really have to be a lot of checks and balances that didn’t work….

Someone could be on the take? In MASSACHUSETTS? Naaa. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was my candidate though. Nothing concrete, can’t offer names.

They are about 2 1/2 years old. I will take fresh ones tomorrow and Wednesday. Thank you for your patience.

I trust him to use them well.
